The Expo: DMV Making the Right Play

Making the right play isn't always about creating your own scoring opportunity, but recognizing what the possession calls for and finding a way to contribute. At The Expo, these 6 players stood out by moving without the ball, keeping possessions alive, finding teammates, and taking advantage of opportunities when they came their way.    Baak showed impressive versatility for her size, handling the ball up the floor and making the right read to find an open shooter in the corner. She moved well around the perimeter and showed her range both off the catch and the dribble, while also attacking the basket and finishing in transition. She contributed defensively too, protecting the paint, preventing an attempt at the basket, and using her hands to collect a steal.     Jones did the little things to keep possessions alive, fighting for the ball, working for rebounds, and staying involved. She was there for an offensive rebound after a contested three and secured the ball and advanced it up the floor. She also played on the perimeter, where she attacked the basket and also showed the ability to handle the ball and score in transition.     Franz was constantly hustling and looking for ways to keep the offense moving. She recovered a pass to prevent the play from breaking down and continued working to keep the ball in her team's possession whenever possible. She had the same effort on defense, staying active and helping teammates apply pressure with traps.     Crews had good awareness away from the ball by recognizing space around the basket. She made a well-timed cut to the opposite block and put herself in position to receive the ball for a layup. Her movement allowed her to create a scoring opportunity without needing to initiate the offense herself.     Bonds stayed ready on the perimeter and took advantage of kick-out by knocking down the three. She was active on defense too, pressuring the ball, forcing turnovers, and getting on the floor. Whether spacing the floor on offense or creating extra possessions, she found ways to stay involved on both ends through tremendous effort.     Harman knocked down threes from the perimeter and cut to score at the basket. She also had good court awareness in transition, handling the ball up and finding an open cutter for a layup rather than forcing her own shoot. She moved with purpose, giving herself opportunities to score inside and out while also creating for her teammates.
