TIP 4: Get stronger, faster, and better conditioned

College coaches aren't only evaluating basketball skills; they're evaluating whether your game will translate to the next level. Improving strength, lateral quickness, explosiveness, and conditioning can completely change how effective you are. Focus on basketball-specific movement and injury prevention, not just lifting heavier weights.

Where you can do this:

Athletic Republic helps players with sprint speed, strength programs, and footwork.

CB Sports Lab

Utah Speed Academy

TIP 5: Learn to impact the game without scoring

One of the fastest ways to separate yourself is to become valuable when your shot isn't falling. Defend the other team's best player, rebound outside your position, communicate, sprint the floor, make the extra pass, set good screens, and chase loose balls. College coaches notice players who affect winning. Points may get attention, but being a player a coach can trust keeps that attention.

Who does these well:

Oftentimes, when key players get shut down in their scoring role, the effective players know how to still make an impact without taking on the primary scoring role. Here is who does it well.

Addison is one of those players who brings an extra element that simply doesn't show up in the stat book. This girl has a motor that doesn't quit. She's running the floor, coming from behind to disrupt plays, diving after balls headed out of bounds, fighting for extra possessions, and consistently doing all the little things you can't put a price on. That effort already makes her valuable, and as Addison becomes more comfortable and confident channeling that same energy into the offensive side of her game, she could become an exciting player to watch develop.

Bentley brings the kind of hustle that finds a way to impact the game even when the ball isn't in her hands. She's moving, creating opportunities for teammates, crashing the boards, and fighting to extend possessions. Her toughness really shows up on 50-50 balls, where she's willing to get on the floor, battle for loose balls, and force tie-ups that often swing possession in her team's favor. Bentley doesn't need to score to make her presence felt—her effort and willingness to do the dirty work consistently create value on both ends of the floor.

Vada has been one of Highland's scoring threats, but this summer we've seen her embrace some different roles that could make her even more valuable. One thing that continues to stand out is her hustle and ability to retrieve the basketball, whether she's chasing down a loose ball, battling for an extra possession, or keeping a play alive. Rather than forcing her own offense, she's shown a willingness to get the ball into the hands of teammates who have stepped into bigger scoring roles. That ability to impact possessions without needing to be the scorer adds another dimension to what Vada can bring to Highland this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='894408' first='Dallas' last='Latu'] - Physical player who is not afraid of contact or getting on the floor in the mix, trying to obtain possession.

[player_tooltip player_id='1091425' first='Scoti' last='Heward'] - What better way to impact the game without scoring than being one of the top assist leaders, and that is her calling card.
