Montcalm Generals’ season preview

ROCK, W.Va. - The Montcalm Generals were unable to play a full high school season, one year ago. The numbers have been extremely low. However, there is experience back with incoming experienced freshmen. Here are the girls to get excited about. Coach Tara Havens hopes the talent will allow them to field a team for a full season. Here are the girls Havens believes would want to play in college:

Versatility. This is the best word to describe Havens. Easily. Inside. Out. She has post size with guard handles. College coaches will be able to place her at the stretch 3 inside the cage. No worries at all. Her bag features enough goodies to befuddle defenders. She can step out and shoot, or she will be able to get into the post and use some moves by the time she is ready to go to school. She is a strong rebounder and shot blocker. Though she plays at a tiny school, the Generals will face their share of tough competition from not only their Class A region but the AA opponents that are located in the area.

Fortune projects as a post player a college coach could build an offense around. With her ability to see the floor and make the great pass to her ability to learn and then retain information, this young lady should be on a Mountain East Conference college coach's radar. Not only does she retain information, but thanks to her being a pitcher on the softball team, she has the strength to make things hard on her opponents down on the block. As a bounce, she is about an 80% free throw shooter, who can hit a shot on the baseline, dribble a little and get a jump shot, or she could learn to play with her back to the basket in the mold of an Audi Crooks.

White is a basketball player. Through and through. She pours all her time into the hoop sport. And, she is a shooting guard, as a result; one, who has already added quite a lot to her game. Her offensive bag features all the shots she needs as the 2. She is quick off the dribble. She can get to the rim with floaters and tear drops. She doesn't need much day light to get the ball off. What I will be looking for from her in the following years is her adjustments to the high school game and how her game evolves as she experiences size and older competition. White could run point at the next level, but her bread and butter is at the 2 spot. Oh, she is quite fast and can stay in front of her offensive assignment.

Carver is a true post player. No matter what. She is a kid who loves to bash around down on the block and fight in the paint for her points and boards. Her biggest strength is her ability to learn. She processes information lightning fast. If a coach asks her to learn a skill, she will have it mastered by the next practice. She is a quick, quick study. Recently, Carver was asked to learn the Dream Shake during travel ball season. And, she has learned it and is ready to execute in Class A.
