Team Previews- Cincinnati McNicholas

Playing in the GCL Coed conference means incredibly tough games every night, and you have to be at your best every night. For the Rockets of McNicholas, they look to challenge for the top of the conference with a good group of experienced players who have the talent to play with anyone in the league. One of their signature wins last season came in the league against a team who went on to win the state title, Chaminade Julienne. We will see what this year brings.

Players to Watch

Her future will be playing volleyball at Xavier next season, but meanwhile she is one of the top basketball players in Southwest Ohio. She is the point guard who was also their leading scorer last season, does a little bit of everything. The thing for this lefty is to be consistent with her game, and she has a lot of tools. Athletic and quick, she has a great motor with a great shot. She had a big game of 17 against the state champs CJ last year.

Look for Avery to be a key contributor this season and is a knockdown shooter. She is a player who can beat you in a lot of ways because she is very smart with a very high basketball IQ. She also plays golf in the fall. Plays mostly the off-guard for the Rockets, but can slide over to the point when Strange is out of the game. A legit pure shooter who draws a solid defender on her.

Molly is the defensive stopper for this squad, she has great instincts and despite not playing in the off-season, she steps right in when November arrives and plays with a great basketball IQ. Another multi-sport athlete who also plays soccer, Molly plays with energy and a high motor, she is effective on the boards for this team. Not a major scorer, her effort to do all of the other things makes her a special part of this teams success.

Even though Tessa didn't get a lot of minutes last year, she is being counted on to be a big factor this year in their success. She is a rim-runner, and battling such a talented post last year in Grace McCafferty everyday in practice has helped her to become someone who will be a difference maker. A breakout season could very well be ahead. Plays bigger than 5'9", she is strong and physical. Very smart player.

Sleeper to Watch

Kate played with the JV squad last season, and is expected to make the big jump into making a difference for the varsity squad this season. She played AAU with Ohio Champion this summer and saw her game improve. She has a great shot right now, what she will need to adjust to is the physical play of the varsity game. Likely to play the 3-spot for her team, eyes will be on her to show great potential this coming season as a sophomore.
