Team Previews- Kettering Alter

After 30-plus season at the helm of Alter High School, Chris Hart has retired and left the program in the hands of a very capable alum, who was a very successful high school and college athlete as Maddlie Bazelak heads into her first year as the head coach of the Knights. Bazelak won a state title with Alter before graduating in 2015 and playing college volleyball at Duquense and one year of basketball at Ohio University.

Now she looks to lead the Knights to the top of a very competitive GCL Coed conference, where they have to compete with the likes of CJ, Fenwick, Carroll and Badin to name a few, They will rely on a good balance of returning guards and new faces that will help propel them into a chance at the title.

Key Players to Watch

Izzie is a player who bring a calm and controlled presence to the court, and sees the floor well from the point spot. Can push the ball in transition if needed and sets the up in the offense. She has worked hard over the summer on being their leader and has taken the responsibility of running the show on her own. She can shoot well from the perimeter and attack the rim from different spots. Great motor and is consistent.

Sarah recovered from her injury and came back at the end of last season and used that time and the summer to get back into her normal game, and regain her stamina of an intense game. She had a great summer and is adjusting to a new coaching staff and style. She has a very high basketball IQ and can pick up on things. A natural leader and knockdown shooter, wants to score. Vocal and can be a player who will make a big impact in their success.

Caroline is only a sophomore but will be counted on a lot this season. She is a lefty guard and can play the point spot well. Hard worker and continues to learn things. A gym rat getting better every day. Can attack the basket and is dangerous when she feels it as a big offensive threat. A great defender lockdown player, can pressure with a high motor.

Grace is a junior who made a nice jump last year as a sophomore coming off the bench. Another player who had a big summer to prepare for what is ahead, she had a good travel season. She is another guard who can add to the style of Alter playing fast and getting into transition. Shooter, good pull-up jumper and can run the offense well at the 2-3 position. Watch for her to step in and make an impact this season.

SLEEPER TO WATCH

A senior to watch this season and has been a good role player the last couple of years as a smaller post position, but she has shown a lot of growth and wants to make more of an impact this season. She can be a scoring option in the paint from the elbow down and makes great decisions. Elite passer with court vision.

Alter will compete in some big games this season, not only in their conference but also non-league games. They play Bellbrook in late December which will be a major test, and will be part of the 28.5 Ohio Classic at Big Walnut High School, an event where all of the teams are coaches by females head coaches.
