Smooth Seniors

I dug through the stats yet again this weekend to pick a few senior guards that are getting it done with efficiency this season. These seniors are leading the way for their respective teams with a high shooting percentage and solid assist-to-turnover rate - which, as a guard, is especially difficult. Continue reading to find out which players I would want on the floor during crunch time.    On a strong Dowling Catholic squad, [player_tooltip player_id='671472' first='Layla' last='Trytten'] stuck out to me with her high shooting percentage, assist to turnover ratio, and overall stats across the board. The senior guard is averaging 11.1PPG, shooting at an impressive 56.9% from the floor, and making three pointers at an eye-catching 45.7%. Trytten also has a positive assist-to-turnover ratio (1.08), which puts her in second on her team amongst Dowling's big-minutes players. If the game is close and you need a bucket, you can count on Trytten's senior experience to hit clutch shots or make the right decision to get points on the board.     [player_tooltip player_id='1130674' first='Sydnie' last='Wass'] has impressed in all aspects of the game for the Waterloo West Wahawks. Starting every game thus far this season, Wass is shooting 52.6% from the floor and 45.7% from deep. Along with a strong assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2), Wass is averaging 4 assists per game and scoring 13.5PPG. Don't let her height fool you - if you don't get close enough, Wass will drain a three in your face and then drive past you and dish for an easy two on the next possession. Wass has shown huge strides from her junior year and is putting together a very efficient senior season.     I think [player_tooltip player_id='1130676' first='Addy' last='Leusink'] has solidified her role as a dependable, efficient role player for MOC-Floyd Valley this season. Leusink is averaging 6.3 points and has proven herself to be a knockdown shooter, shooting 52.2% from the floor and hitting threes at an insane 60% clip as a senior (yes, you read that right). Through six games so far for the Dutchmen Leusink has only turned the ball over 11 times. With those types of numbers, I can count on [player_tooltip player_id='1130676' first='Addy' last='Leusink'] to take care of the ball, drain threes and convert when her number is called.     The Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks have taken this season by storm, and part of their success can be attributed to [player_tooltip player_id='1130678' first='Megan' last='Heyer']'s efficient play. She's shooting 52% from the floor, 57.1% from three point land, and her 20 assists on the season puts her at the top of her team. Megan is also scoring 5.4PPG and does the majority of her damage from behind the arc. Heyer does well to set her feet quickly on her jumper and her shot is as smooth as they come. Megan should be proud of her output this season, and I'm really looking forward to Waverly-Shell Rock's upcoming game vs. CPU.     [player_tooltip player_id='1130680' first='Kylie' last='Dvorak'] is the epitome of a do-it-all senior who you want on the floor. Dvorak is scoring efficiently (50.8% from the floor), has an excellent assist-to-turnover ratio (1.42), and is scoring nearly 12 points per game for the 6-1 Riceville Wildcats. Averaging five 3PT attempts per game, Dvorak has a really quick trigger on her shot and is shooting at a solid 37.1% from behind the arc. Dvorak is also has excellent intuition on the defensive end and averages 4 steals per game. Dvorak's consistent, reliable play has helped put the Wildcats atop the Iowa Star North Conference and I predict a strong showing for the second half of their season.
