Someone that has been going under the radar this season is Layla Trytten Layla Trytten 5'9" | CG Dowling Catholic | 2025 State IA of Dowling Catholic High School. Trytten is an unsung hero for her Maroon team. She has all the ability that you need as a guard to make an impact at the 5A level and that was on full display today. Early on in their game it was the small stuff. Little buckets off a rebound, patient looks offensively, stops on defense, but in the fourth she really took over. In that quarter alone Trytten scored 10+ points on some efficient shooting. She was hitting three after three in the corners and once she was overplayed, she would take it all the way to the bucket or to somewhere else on the court for an easy assist. This isn’t someone who is college committed yet. If she has the aspirations, she has the foundation to be a D2 prospect. I think that was proven today.

On a strong Dowling Catholic squad, Layla Trytten Layla Trytten 5'9" | CG Dowling Catholic | 2025 State IA stuck out to me with her high shooting percentage, assist to turnover ratio, and overall stats across the board. The senior guard is averaging 11.1PPG, shooting at an impressive 56.9% from the floor, and making three pointers at an eye-catching 45.7%. Trytten also has a positive assist-to-turnover ratio (1.08), which puts her in second on her team amongst Dowling’s big-minutes players. If the game is close and you need a bucket, you can count on Trytten’s senior experience to hit clutch shots or make the right decision to get points on the board.

“Trytten has fantastic size at 5’11 for her position at CG. She can handle under pressure, create as the PG, or play off the ball as the 2 or 3 offensively. She would be a monster on most other teams across the state of Iowa, if she competed at any other high school for the most part. College coaches better hop onto this one fast because they are missing out. This is someone who could thrive at the next level, if given a chance.”

Ever since I have been the scout for Iowa, Dowling Catholic has started off their Varsity season by traveling to Minnesota to play some of the top team’s from throughout the state, that did really well the year prior. This season when they went on this trip, they did not have their star PG –

. Trytten finished their first game with a game-high 27 points, while helping lead her team to a resectable victory over a Minnesota powerhouse by 2. The honest situation with Trytten is that when she is the primary ball handler and controller of the offense, she can be very productive. She has shown that for several years on the AAU scene with her
All Iowa Attack
program and she is demonstrating it now as well. With Zediker back now, I’m not sure where things go from here but I’m sure this locked up more playing time moving forward for Trytten.

Layla Trytten Layla Trytten 5'9" | CG Dowling Catholic | 2025 State IA of Dowling Catholic High School is one of those players that if she competed on any other high school team, she would be a bonified star with her impact on both ends of the floor. Trytten is smooth as they come, calm in all of her movements, and she is someone that see’s the ball go in the hoop a lot whenever she is letting it go from around the offensive side of the floor. With her All Iowa Attack team this AAU season, Trytten has been fantastic in every aspect of the game you can think of for the guard position. She will have a chance to make a difference in the DC lineup this next Winter but it’s going to be tough with the 6-7 man lineup they will be competing with.

Layla Trytten Layla Trytten 5'9" | CG Dowling Catholic | 2025 State IA is an underrated talent out of the state of Iowa because of how good her high school team is at Dowling Catholic. Trytten in almost any other program would be the star player and the prospect that all of her team’s action runs through. This AAU season with her All Iowa Attack team, this has been obvious to anyone who is watching. She is scoring in bunches, creating and distributing at a consistent rate, and staying in front of some really good opponents on the defensive side of the basketball. This upcoming winter at DC, they are going to return another loaded roaster and starting line up. I imagine that Trytten is going to see a lot of time on the floor but we will just have to wait and see. If she does continue to get those big opportunities, she has demonstrated that she is going to make the most of it. That’s for sure.

Like I have mentioned a lot in my evaluations the past few days, Dowling Catholic High School should have a chance to win it all this year in their Class. Their roster is loaded with skilled players, a great coaching staff, and a nice system in place. One of those skilled players that is going to have a chance to step up big time this winter is Layla Trytten Layla Trytten 5'9" | CG Dowling Catholic | 2025 State IA . Trytten has demonstrated over these past few months that she is a guard, that can hold her own on the court. she moves effortlessly with the ball in her hands and displays an accurate three level scoring ability. Like all players, there are some things that Trytten does better than others but in general, she can bring production to the floor while not turning over the ball. Something that is going to be needed in big moments this season when Dowling Catholic’s star players get double/triple teamed. Keep en eye out this winter for Trytten and her Maroon’s team. They are prepped and ready get this season underway.
