Watching freshman and sophomores players come into their own on the court is like poetry in motion. These underclassmen have quietly figured it out. Whether they came right in to a varsity spot, or have quickly made the jump from JV to varsity, these youngsters won't stay quiet for long. Make sure to pay attention to them as they continue to lead their teams both on and off the court.

At 5'11" it is easy to see why this sophomore is a leader for Evergreen High School. As a SF, she posses the handles to assist with breaking presses and keeping an offense flowing. She can hit mid-range jumpers with ease and can even step out and score from behind the arch when her team needs it. Elle is also a great passer, which is a great asset at her height. Defensively, Buenning has excellent footwork, keeping her shifty across the court, getting easy traps and steals. She makes use of her height when guarding on the wing. She can also guard and snatch rebounds in the paint. Pay attention to this sophomore to continue to do great things with Evergreen this season and into her future.

Caroline has a great basketball frame and IQ. This freshman plays like a much older player, with a great eye for the ball. She seems to always be in the right place for both offensive and defensive rebounds, leading her Lakewood team in that stat. Bane is tough in the paint and can score easily facing the basket. She can also step out and hit the occasional three pointer. At 5'8, with her quick feet and longer wingspan, she is great in the middle of the floor on defense, whether in a press, zone or help side. She doesn't give up any quickness on the perimeter with dribblers or shooters. As a freshman, Bane is eager to continue to learn and play hard. She will be an integral part of the future of Lakewood's success.

Definitely add Alvarado to your guard watchlist. She is quick when needed, around the defense in the full or half court. And controlled when needed, getting her squad into an offensive set or making the perfect pass to her teammate. Dont let her 5'5" height deceive you, she isnt afraid to play strong in the paint for her own buckets. She can also hit reliably from mid-range and three-point alike. On the defensive end, Bella is perfect for the top of presses and zones. She is fast with her hands and feet, putting dribblers in the perfect spot for her traps and steals. You can always find her sneaking in for a steal on a unsuspecting post player, or grabbing rebounds right from under taller paint players. Horizon will not be short of anything as they move forward with Alvarado leading the team.

Judi is giving great minutes and production as a freshman for CMHS. She has the skills to continue to lead the team for the remainder of her career. She uses her speed very well in the open court and can combine that with nice handles to help break presses. She is slick through the paint, getting buckets as well as getting to line efficiently. Judi is tough in the paint as a guard, grabbing impactful rebounds for her team on both ends. Emily is just a reliable on defense. She uses her long arms to get steals and force the defense to make bad decisions. She is great with helping down on bigger players and tough enough to boxout any player on the court. Add this freshman to your list for northern players.

Watching Thomas play, the PG position would be absolutely accurate. She gives up nothing at 5"3". She has the handles and court vision to break a press, get the ball to open teammates in great scoring positions, and set herself up for buckets as well. Thomas is quick and able to get around the defense to the paint to finish strong or pull-up for the mid-range. She can also break down defenses on the swing pass, hitting open threes when needed. Defensively, K'Dence uses her speed perfectly, keeping dribblers locked up and sneaking in passing lanes for steals. As a freshman she is already a great vocal leader for GW. Keep an eye out for the PG into the playoffs and into her career.
