You couldn't have scripted a better matchup for the Class 2A championship game at the State Tournament between undefeated Crosby-Ironton and Providence Academy – the top two seeds, the top two ranked players, and two of the best coaches in the state of Minnesota. For much of the first half, these powerhouses traded blows, neither able to pull away.

[player_tooltip player_id='205310' first='Tori' last='Oehrlein'], soon to be wearing the maroon and gold of the University of Minnesota, set the tone early. She ripped a rebound away from two Lions defenders and found Lucy Lewandowski in stride for a transition bucket, putting the Rangers up 4-3. [player_tooltip player_id='252381' first='Maddyn' last='Greenway'] responded immediately, jumping the passing lane for a steal and a breakaway layup to tie it at 6.

[player_tooltip player_id='296515' first='Hope' last='Counts'] made her presence felt from the opening tip, dominating the paint on both ends. She finished with 23 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, using her soft touch around the basket to punish the Rangers inside. But it was Hope's defensive impact that truly disrupted Crosby-Ironton, as she altered countless shots without fouling, leading to transition opportunities for the Lions. The turning point came late in the first half with the Rangers clinging to a one-point lead. That's when Greenway took over. The star guard – one of the best players in the country – erupted for 15 straight points, racking up five steals that all led to buckets, swinging the momentum and giving Providence a 42-32 halftime lead.

Providence's defensive intensity only ramped up in the second half, quickly pushing their lead to 20. With the Lions' defense focused on slowing down Oehrlein and [player_tooltip player_id='296516' first='Regan' last='Juenemann'], Lewandowski capitalized, scoring 16 points, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Oehrlein battled through the defensive pressure to finish with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Juenemann and [player_tooltip player_id='826639' first='Sammie' last='Hachey'] chipped in 11 points apiece. However, the Rangers couldn't overcome the Lions' relentless pressure, and Providence cruised to an 81-63 victory.

With the win, Providence Academy secured its fourth consecutive state title, cementing its dominance in Class 2A history.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

[player_tooltip player_id='252381' first='Maddyn' last='Greenway'] - 2026 guard, Providence Academy (Kentucky)

There's not much left to write about how special Greenway is that hasn't already been seen or said. The bigger the stage, the bigger the performance. She completely took over in the first half against Crosby-Ironton, doing most of her damage on the defensive end – playing like a free safety, intercepting errant passes, and turning them into easy transition buckets. Her energy was contagious, inspiring her teammates to leave everything on the court in pursuit of history, ultimately securing a fourth consecutive state title.

In the semifinal against Minnewaska, Madden delivered a masterclass, recording a 29-point, 10-rebound, 12-assist triple-double. And, as expected, when the lights shone brightest in the championship game, she rose to the occasion once again, exploding for 40 points along with 6 steals, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Simply put, she's must-watch basketball. Enjoy it while you can.

BREAKOUT PERFORMER

[player_tooltip player_id='872714' first='Beckett' last='Greenway'] - 2029 guard, Providence Academy

Beckett plays with a level of confidence rarely seen in players her age, but with her experience on the big stage over the past two years, she's more than comfortable in the spotlight. While she's primarily known for her ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc, it was the younger Greenway's defensive performance in the title game against prolific senior scorer [player_tooltip player_id='296516' first='Regan' last='Juenemann'] that stood out the most. She made it incredibly difficult for Juenemann to find any rhythm and was instrumental in shutting down the transition opportunities that had fueled her previous performances.

Beyond her defensive prowess, Beckett's basketball IQ is evident, and it's clear the PA coaches trust her decision-making. In the quarterfinal matchup against New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, she picked up three first-half fouls – something that would normally send a player to the bench – but she managed to finish the game without fouling out. She also contributed 12 points, none from beyond the arc, proving she's far from a one-dimensional player. The future is bright for this rising star!

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS

Please note: When making selections for the Prep Girls Hoops All-Tournament Teams, only performance in games played in the main draw is considered. We did not watch any consolation games.

First Team

[player_tooltip player_id='252381' first='Maddyn' last='Greenway'] - 2026 guard, Providence Academy (Kentucky)

[player_tooltip player_id='296515' first='Hope' last='Counts'] - 2025 wing, Providence Academy (Lipscomb)

[player_tooltip player_id='529357' first='Emma' last='Millerbernd'] - 2027 guard, Providence Academy

[player_tooltip player_id='252379' first='Addison' last='Mack'] - 2025 guard, Minnehaha Academy (Maryland)

[player_tooltip player_id='205310' first='Tori' last='Oehrlein'] - 2026 guard, Crosby-Ironton (Minnesota)

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id='872714' first='Beckett' last='Greenway'] - 2029 guard, Providence Academy

[player_tooltip player_id='296516' first='Regan' last='Juenemann'] - 2025 guard, Crosby-Ironton

[player_tooltip player_id='826639' first='Sammie' last='Hachey'] - 2026 guard, Crosby-Ironton

[player_tooltip player_id='453736' first='Sydney' last='Dahl'] - 2025 wing, Minnewaska (MSU-Moorhead)

[player_tooltip player_id='902452' first='Aubrie' last='Klug'] - 2026 guard, Caledonia

Honorable Mentions

Lucy Lewandowski - 2026 wing, Crosby-Ironton

[player_tooltip player_id='396423' first='Cierra' last='Kortan'], 2025 guard, Sauk Centre (Concordia-St. Paul)

[player_tooltip player_id='453729' first='Megan' last='Thorfinnson'] - 2025 wing, Minnewaska

[player_tooltip player_id='595564' first='Abby' last='John'] - 2025 guard, Barnesville (MSU-Moorhead)

[player_tooltip player_id='425385' first='Amina' last='Allen'] - 2025 guard, Minnehaha Academy
