It’s pretty hard to believe Kennedy just started playing competitive basketball in the spring of her 8th-grade year. Before she began to take it seriously she’d try her hand at things such as cheerleading and even volleyball. Basketball would seem to be the favorite, yet only competed in local recreational leagues where you could find her standing close to the basket outreaching girls a foot shorter than her for rebounds and put-backs. We asked Kennedy what made her decide to make basketball a top priority and who has been some of her biggest influences.
” When I was younger I use to go to SM Northwest games and there was a girl named Broklyn Wagner that played. Every game i’d watch her it made me fall in love with the game and I knew that’s what I wanted to devote my time to and one day that would be me. My parents were also influential in where I was and where I am. They are at all my games cheering the loudest and critiquing me. They have sacrificed so much for me to be able to become the player I am today. “
Now, Taylor a 6’3 force around the basket has developed some added dimensions to her game which makes her an even more dominant player on the court. In a tough game a couple of weeks ago vs Washburn Rural, she went 1-2 from 3 point range, and also demonstrated the ability to handle the ball by pushing it up the court for fast-break layups and getting to the rim off of face ups to the basket. We asked Kennedy what are some other area of her game she felt could gain improvement.
” Handling the ball more and shooting are big aspects of my game that I really want to better myself at. “
The power forward has been with KC Dream Basketball Club for over 3 years now. Being with this program has allowed constant skill and mental development consistently. Playing with Dream has allowed her to play and compete with and against some of the other top girls in the area. Taylor is one of the top D1 recruits in the area. As her game continues to mature look for her stock to grow even more.
Look for Kennedy this year as she helps lead a younger group for the Lady Cougars, who are currently ranked #3 in Kansas Class 6A.
