Faith Buckley, 2020, 6-2, F, Grand Junction
Buckley hasn’t been scoring a ton but the lanky Western Slope forward can block shots, rebound and run the floor with the best bigs in the state. Through eight games, Buckley is averaging 6.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.6 blocks. The senior has reportedly been in contact with programs from many different levels and her recruitment remains open as she plays out her season in an under-recruited area.
In the Tigers’ final game before the winter break, a 49-32 win over Pueblo central, Buckley put up 18 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks.
Maya Sanchez, 2020, 5-5, G, Pueblo West
The other half of the Cyclones’ backcourt pair alongside Northern Colorado-bound Hannah Simental, Sanchez started hot with a pair of double-digit scoring games but has cooled off a bit in that department since. The senior guard is still averaging 7.3 points per game and has helped the Cyclones get off to a 8-0 start.
Diamond Moore, 2020, 5-10, F, Harrison
Second on the team in scoring with 11.7 points per game, Moore does a ton for the Panthers and is also averaging 12.4 rebounds while recording a double-double in four of her team’s first seven games. In a 66-26 win over Pueblo Centennial on Dec. 17, Moore matched her career high with 25 points while shooting 11 for 14 from the field. Moore forms a handful of a one-two punch with Amyah Moore (22 ppg) and brings toughness to the Panthers’ lineup.
Arianna Drake, 2020, 5-6, W, Sheridan
Second on her team in scoring, Drake has been good for just over 14 points a night through six games. The 5-foot-6 wing player, however, does much more for the Rams than score, and averages seven rebounds, 3.3 assists and 5.3 steals per game. Drake was a double-double machine as a junior and has seemingly diversified her skill set even further as a senior.
Eden Bonser, 2020, 5-9, G, Palmer Ridge
Bonser has been a four-year varsity player and has played in at least 23 games in each of her four prep seasons. Throughout her prep career, Bonser may not have stood out starkly with a single loud tool or any eye-popping numbers in a single category but she has quietly been one of the more solid and consistent players in the state with the ability to impact basketball games in number of ways.
So far as a senior, Bonser is averaging 14.3 points, 3.8 assists, three rebounds and 2.9 steals while shooting 39 percent from the field and 32 percent (8 for 25) from 3-point range. In a 56-38 win over The Classical Academy on Dec. 17, Bonser put up this state line: 23 points, five rebounds, four assists and seven steals.
