Region 2 is loaded with talented players and teams. It was hard to pick a top three knowing I had to leave these two teams out. Carrington and Four Winds have great things going for them and I look forward to watching them this season.

Andy Braaten is one of the longest tenured coaches in the state. He is looking forward to his 27th year at the helm leading the Carrington Cardinals. In his own words, this team will be one of his younger teams he has had. This brings a level of excitement alongside some challenges. They only have one returning letter-winner in the 2026 class in Sienna Topp. She played mostly JV last season and had a nice year. Juniors Harper Kollman, Sophie Spitzer, and Berkely Somsen will need to step up into bigger roles this season. Harper was a great role player last year, averaging 4.2ppg and 2.8reb while dishing out 28 assists. Mara Kutz and Aniston Hoornaert are also capable returners, both having averaged 5.1ppg last season. Marah Johnson is their best returning player. She earned All-Region last season and is likely going to find herself on that team again this year. She is going to have to continue improving if this Cardinal squad can reach its potential.

Four Winds has ten returning letter winners from last season's team. Sophomore phenom [player_tooltip player_id='1000498' first='Suri' last='Gourd'] is a three time All-Region selection already. She continues to impress and improve and is one of the top players in the state. She should find herself on the All-State team this season. Coach Sean Gourd Sr. is looking for 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1050762' first='Cailee' last='Hanson'] to lock-in this season and be his team's consistent second scoring option. She has potential to be a double-figure scorer, having averaged 8.4ppg last season. [player_tooltip player_id='1050763' first='Kendra' last='Spotted Wolf'] is a talented forward who is coming back from a knee injury. Dru Longie is another senior that coach is looking towards for a bigger impact this season. She can shoot the ball and can be a good secondary ball-handler. Freshman Sophia Alberts, Patience Dunn, and Anna Marie Longie gained valuable varsity experience as 8th graders due to some injuries last season. Look for these three to be contributors this season.
