Freshman 50: Top 2029 prospects 16 through 20

Assembling the Prep Girls Hoops Freshman 50 is a 6-month process that begins in April at the start of the AAU season and concludes six months later in October. We put an awful lot of work into getting things right and this week we have rolled out Minnesota's top 20 freshmen prospects in groups of 5. Now we offer up #16 through #20. The entire list will be published shortly.    #16: The 6'2 forward, has been considered an up-and-coming prospect for a number of years now. With a muscular frame and a willingness to play as physical as is necessary, Addison is a major presence in the paint. The Jordan freshman has a deep bag of tricks when it comes to her post footwork, as well as a soft touch around the rim. While she excels in the post, Addison is light on her feet, allowing her to play out on the perimeter on both ends of the floor. With grit and strength, Campion poses a significant threat on the boards, too.     #17: Another of the Wayzata freshmen to make the Freshmen 50, Backer has been having a big impact on the AAU circuit for a long time. With her fluid athleticism and ample skillset, the 5'10 guard makes the game seem effortless. Sawyer excels on the defensive end, particularly as a rebounder and perimeter defender, using her length and lateral quickness to her advantage. On offense she stands out as an outside shooter and can also beat defenders off the dribble and score at the rim. With her work ethic and basketball IQ in tow, we won't be surprised if Backer is quick to make an impact on the Trojans varsity.     #18: We first wrote about Layton back in May, when she impressed us with her innate feel for the game and sheer athleticism. Since then, the Big Lake freshman has quickly made a name for herself among the top prospects in the class of 2029 – and rightfully so. A high-octane defender, Layton uses her quickness and length to create pressure on the perimeter. At the other end of the court, she's both a versatile scorer and skilled ball handler. Greta made a major impact on the offensive end for [program_tooltip program_id='713021' first='West' last='Central United'] this summer, and she's likely to do the same for the Hornets in her 9th grade season.      #19: A highly regarded prospect for the last few years, Harris is one of the standout post players in the freshman class. Standing at 6'1, the Minnehaha Academy forward has a large, muscular frame, as well as ample length and mobility. Addison is a strong rebounder who uses her sense of timing and positioning to beat her opponents to the ball. On the offensive end, Harris has an extensive array of post moves. With stellar footwork and soft touch around the rim, she excels at scoring in the paint. Once Harris adds range to her shot, her already high ceiling is going to get even higher.     #20: While Brustad may not be a household name, the [program_tooltip program_id='712699' first='Minnesota' last='Rise'] standout is one of the brightest young prospects we've seen from Southern Minnesota. At 5'10 with length and a muscular frame, Leah is highly versatile. She's quick and agile enough to play on the perimeter, while also having the strength required to bang around in the post. The New Ulm 9th grader plays the game with a gritty, fearless style. She doesn't shy away from physical contact, always makes the hustle play, and excels at creating second-chance opportunities for her team. Now in her third varsity season, Brustad is a core component for the Eagles.
