Layton (banner photo above) put on multiple outstanding performances throughout the month of May. The West Central United guard is explosive, crafty with the ball in her hands, and is constantly looking for ways to score. At Live at the Lakes Greta shot the ball at a high clip from the perimeter. Using her quick release and ability to get her feet set, she was able to knock down shots without needing much time or space. A true three-level scorer, the Big Lake 9th grader found openings at the rim just as easily. She scored 62 points on the weekend, coming in second in scoring in the 2029 Platinum Division. With her recent efforts paying dividends, Greta picked up her first Division 1 offer last week from North Dakota.

#18: We first wrote about Layton back in May, when she impressed us with her innate feel for the game and sheer athleticism. Since then, the Big Lake freshman has quickly made a name for herself among the top prospects in the class of 2029 – and rightfully so. A high-octane defender, Layton uses her quickness and length to create pressure on the perimeter. At the other end of the court, she’s both a versatile scorer and skilled ball handler. Greta made a major impact on the offensive end for West Central United this summer, and she’s likely to do the same for the Hornets in her 9th grade season. 

The Freshman Showcase often serves as an excellent measuring stick for young players. With many of the top prospects in the class in attendance, we got a chance to see how Layton stacks up. From her three-level scoring, to her high-tempo perimeter defense, to her endless motor and radiant positivity on the floor, it’s safe to say that the Big Lake freshman passed with flying colors. Combining Sunday’s performance with a breakout AAU season, it’s easy to see how Greta has made a name for herself among the 2029s over the past 6 months.

Entering the AAU season this super-skilled guard was largely unknown to us, mostly because Big Lake hasn’t been in the limelight for some time now. It didn’t take Layton long to make a strong impression. With length, bounce, speed, and quickness, Greta has all the physical tools required of players at the college level. Her natural feel for the game, ability to score at multiple levels, and high-revving motor help her stand out even further. Anyone who watched West Central’s 2029 group play over the past few weeks can see that Layton is bursting with potential.
