Pickering Lady Red Devils Burn Up the Hardwood

On November 10th, 2025, the Pickering High School Lady Red Devils from Vernon Parish played the Many High School Lady Tigers from Sabine Parish. In the first quarter, both teams were just feeling each other out, playing hard on both ends with not much difference in points. In the second quarter, the Lady Red Devils started hitting more shots from beyond the arc than the Lady Tigers, giving them the lead at halftime. After the half, it looked like the Many Tigers regrouped and started to make a comeback in the third quarter, outworking the Lady Red Devils with tough play, forcing turnovers, grabbing rebounds, and finishing better at the rim. A girl coming off the bench for the Lady Tigers gave them a spark, but by the fourth quarter, it wasn't enough. The Lady Red Devils pulled even further ahead with their ability to hit threes, work the floor, and with great passing, communication, and ball pressure, converting steals into points. They held onto their lead until the end. The final score was Lady Red Devils (Home) 46, Lady Tigers (Visitor) 25. Alayna Yates, a senior and point guard for Pickering High School, number 15 in the class of 2026, displayed impressive basketball skills the other night. On offense, her exceptional ball handling, passing abilities, court vision, and off-ball movement are immediately apparent. She also possesses the capability to shoot three-pointers, successfully making one out of two attempts. Despite her stature, Ms. Yates frequently drives to and cuts to the rim, effectively finishing in the paint, absorbing contact, and drawing fouls. Furthermore, she demonstrates remarkable hustle and aggressive play on the court.     Ava Baltz, freshman, number 14, for the Lady Red Devils, class of 2029. The first thing I noticed about Ava was her defensive prowess, consistently getting steals, forcing turnovers, and then taking the ball coast to coast, finishing strong under the rim despite contact, and subsequently making her free throws. Ava also demonstrates excellent court vision and the ability to make precise long passes down court, leading to easy baskets for her teammates. Ava is capable of playing all five positions and can handle a significant workload if required.     Calyn Lambert, number 33, is a combo guard/small forward in the sophomore class of 2028 for the Lady Red Devils. She demonstrates excellent footwork when playing off the ball, effectively moving into position to make mid-range shots. Her shooting form is commendable, and it's important to note that she is not limited to mid-range; she can also successfully make three-point shots, keeping defenders off balance, and is capable of driving to the rim for strong finishes. Defensively, her height and long reach contribute to her ability to secure rebounds and block shots.     Maycee Holt, a sophomore combo guard, number 32, from the class of 2028 for the Lady Red Devils, demonstrated her diverse abilities. She successfully shot a three-pointer, going one for one from beyond the arc. However, Maycee Holt's most significant contributions were on defense, where she played with intensity, applied pressure to ball handlers, forced turnovers, and effectively defended the lanes to prevent passes into the paint. Additionally, Maycee Holt proved capable of driving to the basket and handling the ball when necessary.     Addyson Deloach, a sophomore from the class of 2028, number 25 for the Lady Red Devils, demonstrated exceptional performance by successfully making 3-pointers from beyond the arc, achieving a remarkable 4-5 record for the night. Her confidence in taking shots, even under pressure, was evident. She also displayed excellent passing skills, exhibiting unselfish play and creating scoring opportunities for her teammates. It was a pleasure to observe her and her sister, Ava Baltz, number 14, collaborate effectively on the court.
