Class 2020: Top Wings

<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt">Shateah Wetering - Montezuma</span></strong> Summer AAU basketball can be huge in a player's development.  The success that <strong>Shateah Wetering</strong> has had the past two Summers has really influenced her play with Montezuma.  Her freshman year she was the fourth leading scoring at 7.8 ppg and 2.6 rpg.  Great off season with AAU All Iowa Attack got her attention from D1 schools.  She took that improvement and confidence into her Montezuma sophomore season and led the team averaging 13.5 ppg and 7.3 rpg.  Montezuma ended season with a 20-4 record and lost first round of state tournament.  Returning top three scorers from a year ago, and an even more improved Wetering, expect a deeper run at state for Montezuma. Committing to Iowa in the middle of her sophomore season, she solidified herself as a top rank player.  This 6-1 forward has shot 60.2% from the field last season.  She uses her length to get to the basket and her strength to finish.  She also uses her size on the boards.  She has a great knack for getting to the ball.  With great work ethic, this is a player that will continue to dominate.  If she improves on her outside range, this will be a player very difficult to stop her next two seasons. <span style="font-size: 14pt"><strong>Adrianna Katcher - Center Point Urbana</strong></span> Many Iowa high school players can only dream of stepping foot on  Wells Fargo floor.  <strong>Adrianna Katcher</strong> has been a starter for Center Point-Urbana the last two years.  Both years they have gotten to the semi-final game at State.  CPU went 20-4 last season, and three of those losses were to eventual State Champion Marion.  That one fact proves how strong this CPU team was last year.  With graduation of Drake commit <strong>Allie Wooldridge</strong>, they will be looking to Katcher to be the leader. Last year this Southern Illinois commit averaged 10.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.2 apg, and 2.46 spg.  A multi threat forward, she can hit the three ball, but can attack the basket and finish in the lane just as well.  She uses her length with a strong first step to the basket, allowing her to get to the rim with ease.  A great ball handler for a forward allows her to lead the fast break as well.  She combines great footwork with ability to read angles to be a menace on defense.  She showed great versatility this past Summer for her Team Iowa AAU team.  With injuries to their inside players, she stepped up and did a great job defending in the post.  This versatility will help her lead a very experienced CPU team this next season. <span style="font-size: 14pt"><strong>Sidney McCrea - Cedar Rapids Prairie</strong></span> Sidney McCrea's ability to do it all has the grabbed the attention of many college coaches.  With offers from Illinois State, North Dakota State, Western Illinois and Truman State, she has a great start on her recruitment.  McCrea can play every position on the floor, but is at her best playing the 3 position.  She makes attacking the lane look easy, and uses her body well in the lane to finish.  She is also a threat from the outside shooting 45.9% from behind the arc.  An unselfish player, she led her team in assists averaging 2.59 apg. Cedar Rapids Prairie had one of their best season since 2006 with a 16-7 record.  They came one game from going to Wells Fargo with a loss to Waukee.  With return of their top three players from last year, we think Prairie will push deep in post season play.  In addition to McCrea's 12.9 ppg, they will also return University of Omaha commit <strong>Sarah Schmitt</strong> and Western Illinois commit <strong>Mallory McDermott</strong>.  That will be three D1 players on their starting lineup that will be hard for opponents to defend.  Add that McCrea and McDermott played all Summer with AAU club Team Iowa together just adds more chemistry. <span style="font-size: 14pt"><strong>Maddie Mock - Johnston</strong></span> With return of 76% of scoring, and 81% of rebounding, look for Johnston to make huge impact this next season.  South Dakota State small forward <strong>Maddie Mock</strong> will play huge part on that team.  Johnston climbed all the way to the semi-final game before falling to Iowa City High.  Return of players like UNI commit <strong>Maya McDermott</strong>, and fellow South Dakota State commit <strong>Regan Nesheim</strong>, Johnston will be another team with three D1 commits on their roster. With talent and experience the Dragons will be looking to go all the way this year in March. Mock is a great rebounder averaging 7.4 rpg last year.  The most impressive part of her rebounding is her ability to quickly convert from forward to guard.  Often she grabs the board and uses her ball handling and court vision to quickly start the break. She has ability to find the open person averaging 3.0 apg last year.  Maddie averaged 9.2 ppg this past season in a Johnston offense with many weapons.  With graduation of <strong>Jennah Johnson</strong> and her 12.7 ppg, look for Mock's scoring averages to increase this year. <span style="font-size: 14pt"><strong>Maya Gyamfi - Urbandale</strong></span> <strong>Maya Gyamfi</strong> averaged a double double for Urbandale last season.  Averaging 13.4 ppg and 10.0 rpg, this forward made huge impact for Urbandale.  She was also a force on defense with 76 blocks.  Not only did she block a lot of shots, but her long arms and great timing intimidated opponents.  Watching her defense, you can see opponents hesitate and adjust shots.  This hesitation is just as good as a block because it often leads to missed shots. Her role for Urbandale last season was more focused in the lane.  Combining quickness and post moves, she was hard to defend in the lane.  She moves well without the ball, and has ability to find the openings.  From her play this off season with All Iowa Attack, she looks to have worked on extending her game more to the outside.  She was able to attack the lane, and used her athleticism to avoid defenders.  She was also pulling up from the 3 point line more, and showed great form.  She also created easy shots for her teammates using great vision and creative passing.  If Urbandale capitalizes on these improvements she has made in her game, look for Urbandale to have an improved season this year. &nbsp;
