Many players impact the game with their scoring abilities. However, being able to defend is something that should never go unnoticed. These players have had big seasons defensively and were crutial to their teams success.
Diahannah King | 5’6 G | Seymour | Senior
King did it all this season for her squad. An offensive threat that averaged 10.2 points per game. King grabbed most of her buckets off of put back rebounds. She led her team in rebounding with 8.1 per game. She’s a scrappy defender and guards multiple positions on the floor. She averaged 2.7 steals per game. King was co Defensive Player of the Year in the Bay Conference.
Bailey Beaten | 5’6 G| West De Pere | Junior
Beaten is incredibly scrappy on defense. She pressures the offense the entire game. She’s athletic and poised. Beaten defends with good footwork. Beaten was co Defensive Player of the Year in the Bay conference.
Daiysha Brown | 5’8 G | Madison Memorial | Senior
The guard is relentless on defense. She’s lightning quick and never stops moving. She causes absolute chaos in the press. Brown grabs steals that lead to most of Memorials transition points. The Big Eight Defensive Player of the Year averaged 3.1 steals per game.
Lyric Johnson | 5’9 F | Hortonville | Sophomore
The forward was a great role player for her team this season. Playing in a tough conference, on one of the top teams in the state, Johnson showed she is a threat defensively. She’s dynamic- she has the ability to guard different positions on the floor. This season she averaged 2.3 steals per game. Johnson was a unanimous All Defensive team selection in the FVA conference.
Kendall Renard Kendall Renard 6'3" | PF Green Bay Preble | 2020 State WI | 6’3 F | Green Bay Preble | Senior
The senior has a rare combination of size and skill. She’s talented offensively and has the ability to score from many spots on the floor. She’s strong on defense and has a great eye for chasing down boards. She led her team in rebounding with 10.1 per game. In a team win over Superior, Renard grabbed 14 boards in the win. Renard as Defensive Player of the Year in the Fox River Classic conference.
Gabby Johnson | 5’9 PG| Freedom | Junior
The All Defensive Player of the Year in the North Eastern conference. Johnson did all things right for Freedom this season. She leads her team in scoring with 13.3 points per game. On the other end, the tall point guard is averaging 5.1 rebounds per game. With over 100 on the season, Johnson remained consistent all season long. She’s incredibly long for her position and excels at using her length to grab steals. She averaged 3.9 steals per game.
