In October, I wrote about player transfers and how they may impact their new programs. Most of the article's focus was on District 15AAAA, which includes Bartlett, Collierville, Arlington and Houston. However, the greatest transfer impact looks to be a team that's not in 15AAAA.

Whitehaven

District 16's, Whitehaven High School, may have benefited the most from 2 transfers.

Whitehaven has the city's best record with 19 wins and 3 losses. Whitehaven's three losses are from non-Memphis teams. In November, they won the MLK Invitational Tournament and in December, won the 901 Tournament of Champions.

Scoring Combo Guard. Elyse transferred to Whitehaven from Georgia. She is currently second leading scorer with 9.4 points, 3.5 assists, 2.7 steals and 2.7 rebounds per game. The junior starter has brought a floor general skillset to the veteran team. She can slow the game down to set up the offense and also operate as the scorer.

High Energy Guard. Amiyah transferred from East to Whitehaven. At Whitehaven, she is averaging 5.8 points, 3.3 steals and 2.8 rebounds per game. She brings high energy, athleticism and aggressiveness on the defensive end. Offensively, she is a secondary ball handler, can knock down the 3 and get to the basket.

Hutchison

I mentioned Hutchison's transfers in that October article. They are currently 7-4. Their 4 losses are also by non-Memphis teams. Hutchison doesn't report their stats in Maxpreps. However, I recently caught a game to eval their transfers.

Quick Guard. Alissa transferred from Millington. She started the game I attended for Hutchison playing off the ball. Then when the starting point guard subbed out, she became the point. She got a lot of shot attempts off the ball from the 3 point time. On 2 attacks with her left, she made both for “AND 1” situations. Defensively, she is very active with her hands.

High Energy Forward. Mikaila transferred from Rossville Academy. She came off the bench for the game I attended. She is long and uses her length as she defended on the perimeter a lot in the game. She was able to get a nice rebound crashing the glass from the top of the key. She also did something that I had never seen from her. She flashed from the perimeter to the high post area for a pull up shot.
