NYSSWA All-Stars from Section 2 Who Return in 26-27-Class A

The New York State Sportswriters Association recently announced its New York all-star teams for 2026. Several players from Section 2 were selected at the various levels. Many of the all-stars are seniors who will move on to the college ranks. However, several talented underclassmen will return in 2026-2027. Here is a look at some of the NYSSWA all-stars from Section 2 who will return next season in Class A.    [player_tooltip player_id='868365' first='Maggie' last='Volmer'] was named to the New York State Second Team due to her outstanding work for Holy Names. Volmer is currently honing her game with the Cap City Scrappers, and the college offers are pouring in. The six-footer is one of the top post players in the Capital Region and will continue to get better. Volmer is a skilled shot blocker, and opponents are forced to alter their shots just by her presence. She is a dominant rebounder. Volmer scores on multiple putbacks off the offensive glass and is virtually unstoppable when she is allowed to catch the ball on the block. She has a soft shooting touch around the hoop. Volmer surpassed the 1,000-point plateau this season and should add a significant amount to her total as a senior.     Nayla Macon was selected to the New York State Class A 10th team. Macon is an extremely talented young player who hasn't even scratched the surface of how good she can be. Just a sophomore, the upside is tremendous for Macon. Her tall, lanky frame and superb athleticism make her dangerous on both ends of the floor. Macon is a productive scorer in the paint. Macon's length allows her to grab offensive rebounds for putbacks. She runs the floor well and is an outstanding finisher on the break. Macon's ability to slash to the bucket makes life difficult for defenses. She is a star on the rise to keep an eye on.     Allie Dickinson was named to the Class A New York State All-Star honorable mention list. Dickinson was the leading scorer for a deep and balanced Glens Falls team. Dickinson led the Black Bears in scoring at around 14.2 points per game. She is becoming one of the elite players in Class A and all of Section 2. Dickinson is 5'10" and can certainly be effective in the paint, beating defenders off the dribble, but shooting from deep is where she really shines. She finished the season with 44 treys, but if defenders rush out to challenge her jumper, she will fly by them and finish off the dribble. Perhaps the underestimated part of her game is her defense. The sky is the limit for Dickinson next season.     Julia Viglucci earned New York State all-star honorable mention status. Viglucci is a lethal shooter from beyond the arc. She has one of the best shooting strokes in Section 2. Viglucci is a solid ballhandler who often runs the point and facilitates the offense for her team. However, it is after she gives up the ball that she is the biggest threat. Viglucci has excellent court vision and is a talented passer. The Holy Names coaching staff loves to run Viglucci off screens to create open looks for her from beyond the arc. If defenders switch or fight through screens, Viglucci will put the ball on the floor and beat them off the dribble, but outside shooting is clearly her strength. She also has solid footwork and is a very good defender.     Jeniyah Wood was named to the New York State Class A Honorable Mention list—quite a feat as only a sophomore. Wood ran the point for Holy Names during the high school season and now plays for the Cap City Scrappers AAU team. Wood is a three-level scorer. She has an explosive first step and can finish from both the right and left sides, and has a productive floater in her bag of tricks. Wood can connect from behind the three-point arc, both off the dribble and on the catch. She is a superb ballhandler and an excellent passer who finds her teammates for easy buckets. Wood and Holy Names should be a team to focus on in 2026-2027.     Holly Hirsch was also named to the New York State Class A honorable mention list. The scary thing about Hirsch is that she is only a freshman. She has plenty of time to get even better. Hirsch finished her 2026 campaign as the second leading scorer for Glens Falls. Hirsch is an outstanding 3-point shooter with very deep range. She has a quick release, so she doesn't need much daylight to get a shot off. Hirsch is equally as productive from behind the arc off the catch or pulling up in transition. She is a superb ball handler and knows how to finish on the fast break.
