June 1 officially marks the opening of the Oklahoma transfer portal window, meaning players are now eligible to suit up with their new schools. It also signals the start of summer league action, and the Mustang Summer League tipped off today with plenty of new faces, new uniforms, and an early look at what the 2026-27 season could hold. I am only mentioning the teams and several players are transferring and will save that for article

1. Leedy is a Class B program that reached the state tournament last season and spent this week challenging itself against some very tough competition. The goal is clear—improve now for success when March arrives.

True to form, Leedy ran its familiar 5-out, dribble-drive offense. Without knowing the full roster, it appeared there were several younger players or new contributors stepping into larger roles, as there was a good amount of teaching and instruction taking place. The offensive concepts were there, with players making the kick-out pass and looking to drop the ball inside when opportunities presented themselves.

One area Leedy appears to still be developing is finding that consistent outside shooter who can make defenses pay. They may already have that player on the roster, but in the game I watched, the shots simply were not falling .

Defensively, Leedy showed a solid 1-3-1 zone that looked well-organized and in sync. The backside rotations were there, with the weak-side defender consistently dropping into position to help protect the basket and cover passing lanes.

Regardless of the score, Leedy continued to compete hard from start to finish. The effort and intensity never wavered. This is a program with a history of success, and it is evident that the focus remains on growth, development, and being at its best when tournament time arrives in March.

2. Heritage Hall looked like a team that wants to push the tempo offensively, utilizing its quick ball-handling guards to create scoring opportunities in transition. At times, they connected on some long up the floor passes that led to easy baskets, while other attempts were just slightly off target and resulted in turnovers. Those are the types of timing issues that are typically corrected once teams get into full practices and spend more time together on the court.

One thing that stood out was Heritage Hall's size. They were able to establish a solid interior presence and generate scoring opportunities around the basket. They also have several players who have a solid mid-range game, consistently pulling up from 10 to 15 feet and knocking down jumpers.

Another noticeable difference from last season is the depth they seem to possess. Multiple players contributed meaningful minutes, giving the team additional options and flexibility.

Overall, Heritage Hall appears to have all the necessary pieces in place. The biggest thing right now is timing and chemistry, which is expected during the summer. As they continue to practice and gain experience together, those details should become more polished heading into the preseason.

3. Weatherford will be looking to replace a do-it-all guard who has taken her talents to the next level, and filling that void will be the focus heading into the season.

One strength that remains is their ability to shoot the basketball. Weatherford has players capable of knocking down outside shots and stretching defenses in half-court sets. The challenge early on will be identifying who takes over the primary ball-handling responsibilities. Getting the ball across half court and initiating the offense may need to be done by committee until a true point guard emerges and settles into that role.

Defensively, Weatherford played with a solid defensive concept and consistently made life difficult on opponents, holding teams to low scoring outputs. .

Handling pressure and breaking presses will be another area of development. With a new group learning expanded roles, that will come through practice and game experience during the preseason.

Overall, Weatherford is still a team that opponents will need to keep an eye on. The shooting, defensive mindset, and overall competitiveness remain in place. Expect the Eagles to continue being a tough out..

4. Star Spencer Star Spencer looked much improved compared to last season. While this is still a relatively young team in terms of basketball IQ and overall experience, there is noticeable growth in their understanding of the game..

Defensively, the Bobcats utilize an athletic 3-2 zone that has the potential to create turnovers and generate transition scoring opportunities. Their athleticism allows them to cover ground quickly, and when they are active in the passing lanes, they can turn defense into offense in a hurry.

On the offensive end, Star Spencer spreads the floor well, creating driving lanes for their guards to attack the basket. One area that could significantly elevate their offense is the emergence of a consistent perimeter shooter. Identifying a reliable outside threat will help against teams that prefer to pack the lane or play zone defense.

Overall, Star Spencer appears to be heading in the right direction. The improvement from last season is evident. If the growth continues throughout the summer and into the preseason, this is a team that could steal a few wins.

5. Bethany looks like a very solid team on both ends of the floor, especially considering the Lady Broncos have only had a few weeks under their new head coach..

Offensively, Bethany's athletic guards do an excellent job of pushing the tempo in transition and looking for early scoring opportunities. In half-court situations, the guards consistently attacked gaps, turned the corner on defenders, and forced help rotations. Those drives led to quality kick-out opportunities, and the Lady Broncos have several shooters capable of making defenses pay from the perimeter.

Defensively, Bethany was impressive with its aggressive man-to-man approach. The Lady Broncos switched on virtually every screen, making it difficult for opponents to run their offensive sets and create clean looks.

It's also important to note that Bethany was without a potential All-State player who brings versatility with both her inside and outside game. Another key piece expected to return is a guard coming back from injury. Her addition could allow Bethany to become a full-court pressing team, which has traditionally been a staple of the coaching staff's style.

Overall, Bethany has the pieces to be on everyone watch list this season. Lady Broncos appear poised to continue improving as they gain more experience within the new system.
