On today's Around Ohio series, we continue to look at some of the top 2023 players in SW Ohio. Today we look at five players who look to break out this season after getting some solid experience last season.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Claire Henry, 5-8 Greenon</strong></span>
Claire comes from a basketball family and has a high basketball IQ for her age. Does a solid job playing the point guard spot, and sees the floor very well from that position. She is a great distributor of the ball, and will find the best shot for her team. Claire is a good defender, and plays with great toughness. Moves well and adds the ability to score from all over the court.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="80518" first="Abby" last="West"], 5-9 Greenon</strong></span>
Abby is a sleeper that continues to make a name for herself in the area. Had a good summer and her strongest attribute is the ability to shoot the ball from beyond the arc. Is a very multidimensional player with the ability to play both facing the basket, or can contribute with her back to the basket. Abby has very good post moves and runs the floor well in transition.
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Riley Hodson, 5-10 Valley View</span></strong>
Without question Riley has a good upside to her game and her future. She has seen her game grow a lot in the last year, and is a player who can play anywhere on the floor. She is athletic will allows her defend anyone and she has a good perimeter shot. Loves to be in the gym, and her high basketball IQ helps her be a solid leader. Watch as her game continues to grow in the next couple of years.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Ellie Reed, 5-7 Valley View</strong></span>
Ellie is a smart player who understands the game well. She can drive to the rim, or can utilize her versatility and score from the perimeter. Has a good midrange shot, and can step out beyond the arc. She works incredibly hard at both ends of the floor and expect her to see her game grow as she heads into her sophomore year. She will be one to watch!
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">[player_tooltip player_id="93550" first="Allison" last="Kinney"], 5-11 Indian Lake</span></strong>
After a freshman season that saw some ups and down for Allison, the Lakers are hoping her game goes to another level this season. There is no reason to think it won’t as she continues to work on her game. Has good range, and a good skill set. Moves well without the ball and continues to work on her weaknesses. Has good size and smart player. Can score and rebound well, hopefully we see her break out this winter.
