PGH Freshman Showcase: The future stars of Team 3

The Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Showcase is always one of my favorite events of the year. It never seems to disappoint, but Sunday's 2026 edition at Maple Grove Middle School was exceptionally good. It was certainly the lengthiest group we've seen with nearly 30 players standing 5'11 or taller. Among the more than 90 participants were 16 of the 20 prospects on our 2030 Watch List along with many more players who'll find their way into the Freshman 50 to be published in October. Scouts Ally McGinnis, Tony Ragulan, Paxyn Rendahl and I will be evaluating the players on a team-by-team basis. Most of those who participated will be profiled over the next few days. Let's begin with the future stars of Team 3.    Meade was our biggest surprise of the Freshman Showcase, although apparently she's no secret in North Dakota. The 5'6 point guard from ND Impact is already ranked among the state's top 15 prospects in the class of 2030 and it didn't take long to understand why. Meade flew up and down the floor from the opening tip on Sunday, showing off a quick first step and confidently let it fly from deep with excellent mechanics. We were even more impressed by how naturally she ran the show from the point. Isabel constantly played with her eyes up, directed traffic and delivered several terrific post-entry passes – truly a lost art in today's game. Meade anticipates exceptionally well defensively, too, seemingly recognizing what an opponent intends to do and pouncing when the opportunity materializes. She plays fast, thinks like a point guard and clearly loves competing. Meade isn't very big but her impact on Sunday most definitely was.     We've come to expect a lot from Truty, and she never seems to let us down. The 5'9 [program_tooltip program_id='712722' first='North' last='Tartan'] EYBL guard once again looked like one of Minnesota's premier young shooters at the Freshman Showcase. It's remarkable how quickly Amelia can receive a pass and launch the ball in one smooth motion. That part of her game reminds us of WNBA standout Kayla McBride, who is one of the world's best in that aspect. But Truty is more than a shooter. So much more! She already owns the Lourdes' single-game scoring record with 44 points, surpassing the mark previously held by former North Carolina standout Alyssa Ustby. She plays with excellent basketball IQ, sees the floor extremely well and competes defensively as well as anyone. Most impressive is the confidence and energy she brings every time she steps on the floor. Truty is the real deal.     Denne was her usual high-energy, high-impact self at the Freshman Showcase. The 5'4 spark plug, who competes in AAU for the [program_tooltip program_id='712687' first='Minnesota' last='Fury'], plays incredibly fast without allowing the game to become too fast for her. Alyse handles pressure comfortably, makes quick decisions and consistently puts teammates in position to succeed. Denne is also relentless defensively, using her quickness and active hands to disrupt ball handlers, jump passing lanes and vacuum up steals. She attacks the basket aggressively and has the strength and body control to finish through contact. A varsity contributor since middle school, Denne continues to expand an already well-rounded game. Whether it's basketball, gymnastics or cross country, her athleticism and competitive nature are impossible to miss. Yes, Denne is tiny but it never seems to matter.     At 6-foot-4 Schoenrock's long-term potential is obviously enormous and not just because she's one of the tallest players in the state. On Sunday at the Freshman Showcase the [program_tooltip program_id='712722' first='North' last='Tartan'] forward gave us yet another glimpse of just how much upside she has. Sophie established her presence around the basket early and often with rebounding, rim protection and physical play, but also showed right away that she isn't afraid to step outside and let it fly when the opportunity is there. That expanding perimeter game is particularly intriguing. Schoenrock has returned from last winter's knee injury looking more assertive and increasingly comfortable away from the basket. She already rebounds at an exceptional level, protects the rim with her length and willingly battles for position. As she gets stronger and her perimeter skills continue to develop, it's difficult to put a ceiling on what Schoenrock could eventually become.
