The Gulf Shores Lady Dolphins enter the upcoming season with experience, continuity and a clear identity under head coach Brian Sexton. With four returning starters, two proven leaders in Anna Murray and [player_tooltip player_id='1919639' first='Olivia' last='Morroni'], and several new additions ready to strengthen the rotation, Gulf Shores has the personnel to build upon its previous success.

The Lady Dolphins intend to play with speed, toughness and sustained effort. Their formula will be straightforward: defend at a high level, finish possessions on the glass and turn stops into transition opportunities. If the players consistently embrace that identity, Gulf Shores could become a difficult opponent as the season progresses.

Head Coach: Brian Sexton

IG: Gshsgirlshoops

X: @GSHSgirlshoops

Key Players

Anna will be one of the central pieces of the Lady Dolphins' success. She is a competitive lead guard who brings leadership, perimeter shooting and poise to the backcourt. Her ability to knock down the three-ball forces defenders to respect her beyond the arc, help to create better spacing, and create driving opportunities within the offense. As the PG, she will be responsible for establishing the Lady Dolphins' tempo and making sure the team is organized on both ends of the floor. She can advance the ball in transition, initiate the offense, and recognize opportunities to attack before the defense becomes set. Her shooting also gives her value away from the ball, allowing her to relocate along the perimeter and remain a scoring threat when another player initiates the offense.

Olivia enters the season with momentum after producing a breakout summer. She provides Gulf Shores with a dependable combination of scoring, rebounding, and frontcourt activity. She has shown the ability to impact the game around the basket while also giving the Lady Dolphins another player capable of converting offensive opportunities. Her rebounding will be particularly important within Gulf Shores' “defend, rebound and run” philosophy. She can help finish defensive possessions by pursuing the ball, securing rebounds, and allowing the Lady Dolphins to immediately transition from defense to offense. On the offensive glass, her effort creates second-chance points and extend possessions. Her continued growth as a scorer gives Gulf Shores an important interior option.

Returning Experience

Gulf Shores returns four starters:

Anna Murray

Caitlynn Sexton

[player_tooltip player_id='1919639' first='Olivia' last='Morroni']

Lila Kaiser

Returning four starters gives the Lady Dolphins an established foundation. Anna and Olivia will receive considerable attention, but Caitlynn Sexton and Lila Kaiser will also be important to the team's overall success. Their experience should help Gulf Shores execute its system, communicate defensively and navigate difficult stretches during games.

That continuity should allow the Lady Dolphins to begin the season with a strong understanding of their responsibilities. The returning group already knows Coach Sexton's expectations, which could help Gulf Shores play with better chemistry, confidence and discipline.

Key Role Players to Watch: The Bench

The development of the bench could determine the Lady Dolphins' ceiling. Gulf Shores wants to play fast and apply consistent defensive pressure, which will require contributions beyond the starting lineup. The reserves must provide energy, defend without fouling, rebound their positions and maintain the team's pace when entering the game.

A productive bench will give Coach Sexton the flexibility to keep players fresh and sustain the Lady Dolphins' intensity for four quarters. Gulf Shores does not necessarily need every reserve to become a featured scorer. It needs players who will embrace their roles, compete defensively and positively affect the game through effort, communication and execution.

If the bench can consistently provide valuable minutes, Gulf Shores will have the depth needed to withstand foul trouble, injuries and the physical demands of playing at an accelerated pace.

New Additions

Jasmine Caldwell | Combo Guard

Jasmine adds another versatile backcourt option to the Lady Dolphins' rotation. As a combo guard, she can potentially contribute both on and off the ball, giving Gulf Shores additional flexibility with its guard combinations. Her presence should help with ball-handling responsibilities, perimeter play and maintaining tempo when Anna is resting or playing away from the ball.

Autumn Milliken | Center

Autumn gives Gulf Shores additional size and an interior presence. At center, she will have an opportunity to help the Lady Dolphins protect the paint, rebound, and establish physicality around the basket. Her addition could be especially valuable against teams with size in the frontcourt.

Within Gulf Shores' system, her ability to secure defensive rebounds and quickly outlet the basketball can help ignite the transition game. Offensively, she can contribute through rim runs, screen-setting, putbacks and finishes around the basket. If she consistently plays with energy and embraces the physical responsibilities of the position, she can provide important frontcourt minutes.

The Lady Dolphins' Identity

Coach Sexton has clearly defined what he expects from this team:

“Defend, rebound, run. We are going to play fast and hard.” Everything Gulf Shores wants to accomplish begins on the defensive end. The Lady Dolphins must apply pressure, communicate through actions and prevent opponents from getting comfortable. However, creating a missed shot is only part of a successful defensive possession. Gulf Shores must complete stops by controlling the glass. Once the rebound is secured, the Lady Dolphins want to run. Their pace can create early scoring opportunities, allow their guards to attack an unsettled defense, and reward forwards who sprint the floor. Playing fast will require conditioning, discipline and sound decision-making. The objective will be to play quick without becoming careless.

What Will It Take to Compete for a State Championship?

Coach Sexton's approach is centered on authenticity and consistency:

“Just keep doing us, and see what the gauntlet looks like.” For Gulf Shores, competing for a state championship will require an unwavering commitment to its identity. The Lady Dolphins cannot allow the significance of a game or the style of an opponent to pull them away from what they do best. They must defend with urgency, rebound collectively and create offense through pace.

The returning starters must provide consistent production and leadership, while the new additions and bench players must strengthen the rotation. Gulf Shores will also need to execute in the half court when transition opportunities are unavailable, value the basketball and remain composed during close games.

The road will be challenging, but Gulf Shores possesses valuable experience and a clearly established style of play. If the Lady Dolphins continue to develop their depth, remain connected and consistently play fast and hard, they will give themselves an opportunity to successfully navigate the gauntlet ahead.
