I was fortunate to be able to see a handful of Northwest club teams recently including Way to Win, Team LaVine, NW Greyhounds, Oregon Elite, Sagebrush and Spokane Stars. For part one of player notes, click on the link here. Below are notes on several players I evaluated in the one day I was present. *Rosters were not available for all teams, although I was still able to grab many player’s names and info
2021 5’8 SG [player_tooltip player_id="82932" first="Maya" last="Erling"] (Team LaVine) had a few moments in the game I was able to see. Erling is a strong off guard that is a solid rebounder, drives and dishes and can finish through contact around the basket. She could be a solid pickup for any school looking to get in on a player’s recruitment late as she remains uncommitted.
2022 5’8 PG [player_tooltip player_id="27947" first="Veronica" last="Sheffey"] (Way to Win Gold) was probably the single most impressive player I saw for the event. Her on ball defense against the NW Greyhound’s guards was eye opening as she slid her feet, played with physicality and allowed for nothing easy. Sheffey was also able to make some skillful baskets on offense and rebounded strong from the point guard position. A complete performance from a clear Division 1 prospect.
2022 5’11 SF [player_tooltip player_id="156428" first="Tatum" last="Thompson"] (Way to Win Gold) had multiple eye popping athletic moments versus the NW Greyhounds. Thompson was probably the best pure athlete on the wing in the game. She is a quick leaper with great length and timing for deflections, blocks and rebounds. Thompson scored the ball some, although her shot was a bit off after not playing since March. The potential is there and her athleticism, motor and unselfish play warrants a lot of Division 1 attention.
2024 6’0 PF Gazmine Ship (Team LaVine 15u) was impressive as an incoming freshman. Ship is a strong and physical post presence on both sides of the ball. She finishes around the basket, blocks shots and posts really well. Ship will need to continue just working on her all around game and some perimeter skills as she gets older. As of today, she has potential as a Division 1 prospect. *Feature image
2023 6’3 C [player_tooltip player_id="154284" first="Vivienne" last="Berrett"] (Way to Win Silver) had some solid moments in the couple games I watched her. She is physical in the post and has decent touch around the basket. Berrett’s ability to get up and down the floor also improved some since I last saw her. Just continued work on her all around game and gaining experience on the court will be key.
2025 5’8 G Ava Marr (Team LaVine 15u) was the youngest prospect I saw, but she did show some potential as a pretty strong kid for her age and above average shooting ability. A player I will be tracking over the course of the next several years.
2021 6’1 PF [player_tooltip player_id="189198" first="Mia" last="Flor"] (NW Greyhounds Black) had a really good first half performance in the game I saw. Flor was rebounding strong, finished around the basket and played hard. *Committed to Idaho State
2022 5’8 [player_tooltip player_id="144533" first="Taleya" last="Maiden"] (Sagebrush Orange) caught my eye with her outstanding speed on both sides of the ball. Maiden was great for chase downs cutting her man off and contesting shots. She is still developing her offensive skill set all around, but the potential is there as she keeps working. A player for some colleges to track.
