Offseason Radar Watch Region 5-4A

We are now more than halfway through the offseason evaluation series in the Class of 4A. Here are five players in Region 5-4A who could be in for some of the most impressive individual 2026-2027 school basketball seasons.    [player_tooltip player_id='1154917' first='Samantha' last='Garner'] is definitely a player to know entering her junior season.   Garner is a savvy scorer, especially when driving to the bucket. She has good first-step speed when initiating drives, which often lets her get past her defender. When attacking the basket, Garner is able to make touch floaters consistently. Those shots give her a gateway to be more successful on drives than the normal high school guard.   Garner can also catch a heater in shooting from distance in games. Last season she had multiple games with four or more makes from distance. This included a game against LaVergne High School where she made six 3-pointers.     [player_tooltip player_id='907623' first='Amira' last='Maynard'] is a dynamic guard who should perform well in her senior season.   Maynard is a confident creator on the dribble. She can go to euro steps and spins when attacking the basket. She can also just score through contact and be successful.   Maynard is also a tough-nosed competitor who does not mind fighting for offensive and defensive rebounds. She does a great job at rotating to ideal rebound positions, and on defense she has good rotations overall that make her a high-level help defender.   Maynard times her help defense well, especially when post players are attacking the basket. In a game against Smyrna High School, her interior defense was especially showcased, as she recorded four blocks.     [player_tooltip player_id='1166706' first='Kaleighn' last='Richardson'] in her freshman season played a big role for Oakland High School and excelled in it.   Richardson is a talented scorer. Richardson is just as dangerous on the dribble as she is playing off the ball. She is capable of creating space for shots on the dribble, especially on the drive. Richardson is also a guard in this list of five who has a nice floater she can go to when attacking the basket. She also does a good job at being patient on drives. Richardson waits till an ideal angle presents itself and attacks it.   Off the ball, Richardson is a good spot-up perimeter shooter. She is capable of hitting shots from well off the line. In a game against Tullahoma High School, she made multiple 3-pointers, including one from a few feet off the line at the top of the key.     [player_tooltip player_id='821986' first='Caydence' last='Thomas'] is a SG/SF with great defensive versatility.   Thomas, with her length and long strides, is a constant defensive disruptor. She is capable at times of defending the PG on other teams, which is a huge advantage. In that scenario, she puts a damper on the offensive sets a team is trying to run because of how much relentless defensive pressure she brings against the primary creator of the other team.   Thomas, with her speed and size, is also a good inside scorer and fast-break scorer. Against Centennial High School last season, she had five fastbreak buckets.     [player_tooltip player_id='821995' first='Madison' last='Taylor'] had a good season in her junior year and was especially impressive shooting the ball from distance.   Taylor made multiple 3-pointers in a ton of the games she played last season. She is mainly a catch-and-shoot threat but can step up and hit 3-pointers off the dribble. She can hit shots from all over the perimeter, but has an eye for corner 3-pointers and deep wing 3-pointers.   One of her better shooting games last season was against Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet High School, where she made five 3-pointers.
