As we dive into the pre-season update of the PGH Ohio state player rankings - here are some of the top "stock risers" in the Class of 2021. [player_tooltip player_id="159013" first="Taylor" last="Thierry"] - 5’10 Guard - Shaker Heights Laurel Thierry’s stock exploded this off-season - arguably more than any other player in the state of Ohio. Her time with nationally renowned AAU program Sports City U proved to be very beneficial as Thierry, now committed to Ohio State University and ranked 7th in our updated state rankings, is an explosive athlete who is especially disruptive on the defensive end of the floor. Her effort defensively leads to easy buckets for herself (where she is outstanding in transition) and her teammates (Taylor racks up assists at a high rate). [player_tooltip player_id="32562" first="Amy" last="Velasco"] - 5’7 Guard - Centerville Our 8th ranked player - [player_tooltip player_id="32562" first="Amy" last="Velasco"] - is known as one of the state’s scrappier guards. The Bowling Green commit is not afraid to mix it up with bigger, more athletic guards and routinely finishes through contact around the rim. She is a good passer with solid athleticism and quickness to go with a high basketball IQ. [player_tooltip player_id="91113" first="Brynn" last="Mullet"] - 5’8 Guard - Berlin Hiland Berlin Hiland HS was a fixture on the AAU circuit during the crazy off-season of 2020. It’s safe to say that many basketball fans left Hiland’s games raving about the play of [player_tooltip player_id="91113" first="Brynn" last="Mullet"]. The silky smooth shooter puts on shooting displays that few will forget after watching them - including 10 in a single game during her junior year of HS. She is a talented combo-guard who creates her own shot off of the bounce, as well as hitting a high percentage of stand-still jumpers with her feet set. Our 25th ranked player will continue her playing career at Ohio Dominican upon graduation. [player_tooltip player_id="91139" first="Morgan" last="Yoder"] - 5’9 Guard - Berlin Hiland Coming in at #29 on our updated list is one of the state’s best big-game players - another Hiland Hawk - [player_tooltip player_id="91139" first="Morgan" last="Yoder"]. Yoder is a tenacious on-ball defender - using her instincts, length and experience to routinely shut down the best player from the opposition. She is great with the ball in her hands, taking care of it and distributing to the Hawks’ many weapons. Morgan is no slouch shooting the 3 either - one of the state’s best shooters from 3-point range. She is committed to play collegiately at Ashland University. [player_tooltip player_id="159030" first="Madison" last="Cluse"] - 5’11 Forward - Nordonia Cluse - entering the rankings at #39 - is a physical presence that few teams can counter in Northeast Ohio. The Miami of Ohio commit is a true point-forward with outstanding playmaking ability at her size. Madison’s strength helps her finish through contact and beat double-teams - which she does regularly on the block or from the perimeter. She can take over games as a rebounder when she is active and engaged in doing so. [player_tooltip player_id="91129" first="Abby" last="Stephens"] - 5’11 Forward - Hoban Rounding out the top 40 is [player_tooltip player_id="91129" first="Abby" last="Stephens"] - who has transferred to Akron Hoban from Uniontown Lake for her senior season. Stephens - who is uncommitted - has rare passing ability at nearly 6-foot tall. She is more than capable of filling the stretch-big role that colleges are looking for - stepping out and knocking down 3-pointers with ease. Abby is the rebounder that coaches love - one who can start the fast-break with her outlet ability and her ball-handling ability. [player_tooltip player_id="91132" first="Nakyah" last="Terrell"] - 5’7 Guard - Canton McKinley Terrell - #41 on our updated list - is the floor general at storied Canton McKinley HS. The High Point commit is a blur on the floor - using her quickness to get into the paint at will - breaking defenses down and creating offense for herself and her teammates. She is great defensively - more than willing to pressure full-court and speed up opposing guards. Terrell plays with a love of the game that is evident when you watch her.
