Breakdown:
Cal Stars Shine Bright
The Cal Stars had five players with seven points or more - fueled by [player_tooltip player_id="163093" first="Talana" last="Lepolo"]’s 11 assists. This group has formidable talent in the likes of Jennah Isai five-star prospect from Arizona along with up and coming talents like [player_tooltip player_id="171249" first="Amanda" last="Muse"] and Nya Epps. They were able to share the ball and play some unselfish basketball - at a blistering pace with their high octane offense. This is a difficult group to stop because they attack you at all angles with a lot of individual talent that ultimately plays for one another - on one accord.
[player_tooltip player_id="171249" first="Amanda" last="Muse"]
Perhaps the biggest surprise for the Cal Stars was Muse - a 6’4” center who has been playing with their 16U program. She caught the eye of former ESPNw talent evaluator Dan Olson at the Nike TOC Iowa and it’s easy to see why. She has a tremendous wingspan and covers a lot of floor when she is running and has a majestic touch around the rim. Silky smooth forward that rebounds at an excellent rate that combines size with shooting touch and skill. Muse was a constant cog in their success with her 12 point, 5 rebound performance showing off her versatile skill set.
Jazzy Davidson
“Agent 60” has been one of NW Stars’ most highly coveted players - but the secret it out regarding the precocious talent from Clackamas She runs like a gazelle in the open court with the ball, and is incredibly fluid in her merits to the basket - all packaged in a 6’1” frame with immense wingspan. She gave the Stars trouble all over the court, particularly as a slasher who can also space the floor. Davidson is also a sensational rim protector based on physical attributes alone. Her 10 point, 4 rebound, 1 assist, 1 block, 2 steal performance against a great Cal Stars team was certainly an eye-opener.
Mogel and Shuler: Yin and Yang
[player_tooltip player_id="158545" first="Rhyan" last="Mogel"] and [player_tooltip player_id="158542" first="Kennedie" last="Shuler"] are the opposite sides of the same coin. [player_tooltip player_id="158545" first="Rhyan" last="Mogel"] is the illustrious do-it-all wing who flourishes in the half-court trap defensive as well as within the transition break. Kennedie is the quick on-ball defender who makes quick moves in the half-court setting and takes you by surprise with her innovative finishes and footing towards the basket. Together, they are a formidable tandem who bring a lot of excitement and flashes in this young nucleus that is the NW Stars. They provided for some huge moments throughout the course of the game as they showcased their respective talents against a formidable foe.
