PGH Iowa Top 250 Expo Review: Team 3 Vs. Team 4

Many of the top players in the state of Iowa gathered at Kingdom Hoops for the Prep Girls Hoops Iowa Top 250 Expo in October. Games featured intense play throughout with athletes getting the opportunity to showcase themselves in front of college scouts while preparing for the start of the upcoming 2020-21 basketball season. With so many changes hitting due to the novel coronavirus, including many summer camps and tournaments being scrapped, the Prep Girls Hoops Iowa Top 250 Expo provided those players with a great chance. We will be offering up a recap from each game of the expo. <strong><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-212283" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/10/106-Aliyah-Al-Hameed-200x300.jpg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></strong> <strong>Aliyah Al-Hameed, Ankeny Centennial (2024)</strong> Typically, it can be difficult to break into the rotation in Class 5A - especially at a program like Ankeny Centennial. Aliyah Al-Hameed is no typical player. The Class of 2024 Al-Hameed is a quick guard who has no trouble tracking down the loose ball and starting the fast break herself. She is very smooth and fully capable of finishing herself. <strong><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-212298" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/10/122-Jariah-Harris-200x300.jpg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></strong> <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="63028" first="Jariah" last="Harris"], Cedar Rapids Jefferson (2023)</strong> Several key places return for Cedar Rapids Jefferson this year, but the team also has a nice addition to work into the rotation in [player_tooltip player_id="63028" first="Jariah" last="Harris"]. Harris, a 5-foot-11 athlete in all senses of the word, is strong around the rim in terms of finishing. She also shows tremendous skills in grabbing hold of the loose ball. Mix in a mid-range game that continues to develop and it is obvious why Harris has all the makings of a five-tool prospect. She can finish with contact and is just a pure all-around shooter and scorer. <strong><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-212306" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/10/130-Olivia-Baxter-200x300.jpg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></strong> <strong>Olivia Baxter, Dubuque Senior (2022)</strong> Olivia Baxter experienced a solid sophomore campaign a year ago for Dubuque Senior. But after watching the 6-foot-2 Class of 2022 Baxter work at the expo, it is quite evident she has improved her game. Baxter started 15 of 22 games a year ago, shooting nearly 38 percent from the field with 115 rebounds. She is a big, strong presence in the paint and does a great job finishing once she makes her first move. <strong><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-212261" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/10/38-Mia-Miller-200x300.jpg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></strong> <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="129028" first="Mia" last="Miller"], Bondurant-Farrar (2022)</strong> Even as a sophomore last year, you could see that [player_tooltip player_id="129028" first="Mia" last="Miller"] was playing the game at another level. Miller started 20 of 21 games for Bondurant-Farrar, scoring 80 points with 90 assists, 45 rebounds and 30 steals. Miller, a Class of 2022 prospect, has excellent range from beyond the three-point line. She made just four triples last season, but that number could easily hit the 20s this year. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="160568" first="Addison" last="Klosterbuer"], Central Lyon (2023)</strong> Checking in just a shade under 6-foot, Central Lyon’s [player_tooltip player_id="160568" first="Addison" last="Klosterbuer"] is a tremendous scorer on the hardwood. The Class of 2023 prospect has excellent touch on her shot and also an ability to pull up and drain buckets from the mid-range. Klosterbuer, who also has the ability to high point the ball and bring it down, shows range from the 3-point line. Last year, she shot 37 percent from deep, making 44 triples in all and finishing with 174 points, 86 rebounds, 28 assists, 25 steals and 16 blocks. <strong><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-212268" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/10/46-Kayla-Reis-200x300.jpg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></strong> <strong>Kayla Reis, Dallas Center-Grimes (2024)</strong> The Dallas Center-Grimes program continues to produce excellent athletes and basketball players. Up next is Kayla Reis, as the Class of 2024 prospect makes the transition to the high school game. Reis is quick to get the team into transition off the break, making nice crisp passes that are easy to handle by her teammates.
