With the season being tipping off in 3 weeks, here’s a look at some players who have to replace the 2020 Miss Basketball nominees.
13th Region: [player_tooltip player_id="80495" first="Ally" last="Collett"] and [player_tooltip player_id="80501" first="Amerah" last="Steele"], South Laurel -
Of all the teams we’ve looked at, South Laurel may be the best equipped to reload their roster without a massive drop-off from a year ago. [player_tooltip player_id="106133" first="Rachel" last="Presley"] is a proven star with multiple scholarship offers and [player_tooltip player_id="164394" first="Clara" last="Collins"] is ready for a bigger role after waiting her turn until now. Bree Howard never gets a ton of recognition but she could be the leading scorer for the Cardinals this season.
14th Region: [player_tooltip player_id="80512" first="Lexy" last="Meyers"], Leslie County -
Leslie County hated to lose 25 points per game from Meyers but the cupboard is far from bare. Senior Emily Bowling is ready for a breakout season after being the Robin to Lexy’s Batman last season. Sophomores Iris Napier, Emily Napier and Emma Napier are going to have much bigger roles this season and fellow Sophomore Baylee Davidson could be in the running for most improved player in the region. Leslie could be just as good or better this year.
15th Region: Katlyn Ball, Belfry -
Belfry is another team that could be just as good or better than a year ago. Junior Cushi Fletcher brings back experience on the wing while [player_tooltip player_id="167103" first="Kyera" last="Thornsbury"] has been a hot name in recruiting the past 6-9 months and fellow Junior Linzee Phillips could be a breakout candidate. The Lady Pirates are going to be poised for a good season and could be a dark horse for regional champs.
16th Region: [player_tooltip player_id="80522" first="Julia" last="Parker"], Ashland Blazer -
Junior center Mikayla Martin could be the best kept secret in the region and should average a double-double after missing that by half a rebound last season. Senior Carley Cullop is going to chip in double digits points every night out and [player_tooltip player_id="231465" first="Ella" last="Sellars"] is a hidden gem that should get a lot more floor time this season after playing spot minutes as an 8th grader last season.
