Evaluations: SF Washington vs. SF O’Gorman

I took in the top five match-up between #1 O'Gorman and #5 Washington on Thursday night. O'Gorman handled business as the top team in AA, and handed Washington a 53-24 loss. In the game there were plenty of players that stood out - here are my evaluations of the top players in the game. <h2><span style="font-size: 18pt"><strong>O'Gorman</strong></span></h2> <strong>Awoti Akoi - 6'2 C - 2019</strong> **9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals** [Committed to Wayne State University] Akoi is a tough competitor who doesn't back down inside. She is strong with the ball and looks to score when she gets the ball down in the post. Smooth with the ball and skilled enough to create space on her own. Akoi is a player who can get to the rim pretty easily as she posts up on the low block and moves well into space. <strong>Emma Ronsiek - 6'1 W - 2020</strong> **18 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists** [Committed to Creighton University] Ronsiek was really solid in this one. She knocked down four triples in the game and was a really solid contributor throughout the game. She's so active in multiple facets of the game and came from the other side of the court in one trip for a huge block. She's a vocal leader for the team and really leads the charge on the floor. Very capable ball handler and can create her shot off of the bounce. Ronsiek could have a triple double every night if she wanted to. <strong>Carly Kunkel - 5'6 PG - 2020</strong> **6 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists** I really liked the game of Kunkel as he handled the ball really well and got things moving for O'Gorman. Kunkel is a small lead guard who can pack a bit of a punch shooting the ball as well. Drained two 3-pointers in this one and the jumper does look pretty solid. She does a good job on the ball and handles pressure pretty well. Would like to see her use her dribble a bit more as I thought that she might have picked it up a little early a few times. <strong>Isabelle Moore - 5'7 SG - 2021</strong> **4 points, 3 rebounds** Like Kunkel, Moore played pretty solidly yet unspectacularly. She is a player who is going to be able to score a bit more as she finds her groove on the team. Good rebounder from the guard spot who will contribute very solid minutes off of the bench. Good handler and I can see her moving onto more of an on-ball role in the future eventually. Really solid contributor and competitor. <strong>Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda - 5'11 W - 2022</strong> **6 points** Mwenentanda played just a little bit in this one but the freshman impressed me in the time that she was on the floor. She scored six points in the game and showed some really nice touch around the rim as she looks for the ball. Can drive it a little bit and score at the rim but in this one she hit some shots after getting the ball under the basket. You can see the skill, just want to see her develop a little more with that skill. <h2><strong><span style="font-size: 18pt">Washington</span></strong></h2> <strong>Sydni Schetnan - 6'5 C - 2021</strong> **2 points, 10 rebounds** Schetnan is a huge presence inside for Washington at 6'5. She's very thin and raw, but the frame is there for her to add some muscle and become a consistent scoring threat down low. Really solid rebounder already who thrives on the offensive boards. Didn't make a field goal in this one but didn't need to in order to show me the upside. A solid prospect who is a high level volleyball player as well. <strong>Libby Nachtigal - 5'9' F - 2019</strong> **4 points, 3 rebounds** Nachtigal is a solid option down in the post for Washington. She is a player who is built very well and can withstand a beating down low. Carves out space to get the ball pretty well but has the ability to take it off the bounce too. She has a good nose for the ball as she gets her hands on the ball and creates a little havoc on the defensive end of the floor. <strong>Brielle Biteler - 5'8 SG - 2021</strong> **7 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals** Biteler was the best player in the game for Washington. She was able to rebound the ball and push it up the floor creating opportunities for herself and other teammates. Very good rebounder from the guard position and uses those long rebounds to push it up the floor quickly. Quick hands allows her to steal the ball and poke it loose. Liked the game that I saw from her today.
