Martin Luther King was one of the most influential individuals in United States history. He was one of the greatest leaders to ever live. Martin Luther King had the ability to get others to follow his lead and to make positive change in the world.
There is no better time than MLK Day, to take a look at positive young leaders in our communities. There are many gifted and intelligent young leaders in Michigan high school basketball. We should celebrate the athletes that make our futures look brighter.

Being a leader goes hand in hand with hard work and dedication to the cause. Hurst has shown that hard work and dedication on the basketball court. It’s what has made her the player that she is. If those qualities transfer off the court, she will be a leader of her generation.

Lewis goes about her business, always quietly excelling. She is the type of leader that other players and people are willing to stand next to. Apply the same things away from basketball, and you have a key person in the future of the community.

Norris has role model like qualities. In and out of basketball, people can look up to her and at her, for motivation and and guidance. Norris is going to affect lives by being a shining light to people that may be in need of one.

Thomas seems to get the way the game of basketball works. It doesn’t stop there though. She has the same understanding of what will make her even more successful off the court. Thomas will make a positive difference for the people around her in the coming years.

Rutledge is a selfless as they come as a basketball player. This describes her as a person as well. She’s willing to sacrifice for the greater good, both on and off the court. Her sacrifices in life, will benefit the community that she’s in.

Kayiona - I saw the way you worked and battled at the Top 250. She grinded and proved herself as a legitimate basketball prospect. When she grinds like this in her adult life, incredible things will happen. Whatever path she takes in life, she will go 100%.
