I attended a few games over the course of this week and received information from area coaches. As always, feel free to reach out to me on my socials regarding player news.
Here is what I found..part two.
[player_tooltip player_id="91510" first="Lindsey" last="Weingard"] - Dr. Krop
2021 [player_tooltip player_id="91510" first="Lindsey" last="Weingard"] is currently one of the top scorers in South Florida. The 5-foot-6 guard is averaging 22 points per game on 52 percent shooting from the field. Moreover, Weingard has scored 20 or more points in 11 of 17 games. Her impressive splits extend out to the 3-point line where she is shooting 42 percent. Weingard has knocked down three or more 3-pointers in nine games. 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="244126" first="Emmy" last="Mills"] is one of the top rebounders in the area, averaging 12.9 boards per game. The 6-foot center has recorded 14 or more rebounds in nine games. The Lightning stand at 11-6 overall thanks to the pair of seniors.
[player_tooltip player_id="91498" first="Zaida" last="Gonzalez"] - Palm Beach Lakes
2021 [player_tooltip player_id="91498" first="Zaida" last="Gonzalez"] is battling Weingard for the scoring lead in South Florida. The 5-foot-8 guard is averaging 22.3 points per game on 63 percent shooting from the field. Essentially, the FIU signee has gone back-and-forth for the area lead with the Lightning guard. Against Spanish River, Gonzalez scored 35 points on 16-of-27 from the field. She is a big reason why the Rams are one of the top contenders in the region. Gonzalez scored 25 points in a recent win over Palm Beach Central. I believe she is the only Division 1 signee for her class in Palm Beach County.
[player_tooltip player_id="219938" first="Taylor" last="Blackshear"] - Benjamin
2023 [player_tooltip player_id="219938" first="Taylor" last="Blackshear"] is one of the best shooting guards in South Florida. The 5-foot-7 Buccaneer is averaging 15.5 points per game on 49 percent shooting from the field. Against Cardinal Newman, Blackshear scored 26 points on an impressive 12-of-15 from the field. Her backcourt shooting skill is equally matched by her work on the glass. Blackshear is averaging 13.1 rebounds per game, placing her 10th overall in the state. Moreover, she has reached double-digit boards in ten of 12 games. Blackshear’s 71 offensive rebounds shows she fights on both ends around the rim. The fact she is listed as a guard and contributing in the frontcourt only adds to her value.
[player_tooltip player_id="219946" first="Genesis" last="Santiago"] - Mater Academy Charter
The Lions have an impressive player in [player_tooltip player_id="219946" first="Genesis" last="Santiago"]. The 5-foot-5 guard is averaging 11.1 points, 7.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game. Santiago’s helpers place her 6th overall in the state. Mater Academy Charter has three other players in double-figures thanks in part to her effort. 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="221662" first="Alessandra" last="Bonilla"] leads the team averaging 16.9 points per game on 60 percent shooting from the field.
[player_tooltip player_id="243907" first="Ashley" last="Martinez"] - Somerset Academy Silver Palms
2026 [player_tooltip player_id="243907" first="Ashley" last="Martinez"] is a player to watch in the future. The 5-foot-5 guard leads South Florida with 62 3-pointers made. Moreover, Martinez has connected on 50 percent or greater from behind the arc in ten games. Against Miami Country Day, she scored 17 points on 5-of-9 from deep. The fact she is making significant contributions in her class on the high school level is impressive.
[player_tooltip player_id="153108" first="Taja" last="Stephens"] - Western
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="153108" first="Taja" last="Stephens"] scored 32 points in a victory over Fort Lauderdale. Moreover, Stephens was credited with zero turnovers. The 5-foot-8 combo guard is averaging 17 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Wildcats. The three-level scorer has Western at 7-3 on the season.
