The featured image is of [player_tooltip player_id="130326" first="Joslynn" last="Spears"] of Pike High School. The 2021 class wasn’t privileged to much of a grassroots season between their Junior and Senior years, therefore many of them haven’t received as much college attention as prospects in years past. I wanted to take the time to point out the remaining uncommitted prospects in the 2021 class position by position, while highlighting five from each position group at the bottom of each article. Below is a look at the 35 2-guard prospects who, to the best of my knowledge, remain uncommitted as far as a college commitment goes. There will be follow-up articles highlighting additional uncommitted prospects from the remaining position groups to follow very soon.
[player_tooltip player_id="62535" first="Pa’Shence" last="Walker"], 5-8 SG, Martinsville H.S. For those of you familiar with Pa’Shence, she obviously has a family tree strong in basketball. This season, she finished her career with her best season yet. She improved in every single statistical category, whether it was scoring six more points per game, or turning it over less than two times per game, plus she crossed the 1000-point threshold late in the season. Pa’Shence is a talented athlete, with good length, wiry strength, and the ability to be an elite defender. However, her improved offensive prowess and increased shooting percentages should convince coaches still needing a guard that she can fill their void. I still think she has Division-I talent, and she could be a small college steal. 42. [player_tooltip player_id="22702" first="Zayda" last="Hatfield"], 5-8 CG, Terre Haute South Vigo H.S. Zayda is another talented, long, wiry strong, and athletic guard still seeking a home for the next four years. She has put together a strong career, scoring more than 1200 points, but she was injured late last season and missed the 2020 Summer & Fall, which hurt her visibility. She is good with the ball in her hands and can run offense or create for others, but her ability to create her own shot at all three levels makes her a unique scoring threat. She also has the athletic talent that, when she wants to, she can sit down and be a high-level defender. I think she does so many things well that she’d be hard to not consider. If she can be a little more efficient and take care of the ball better, watch out. 86. [player_tooltip player_id="99380" first="Karly" last="Sweeney"], 5-7 SG, Salem H.S. Tough-nosed, gritty, feisty...please insert your adjective here. Karly is all of those things, plus a really nice basketball player. Ever since I saw her during her Sophomore year, it was evident that this kid hated to lose, as she competes like each possession is the last one. She has some ball skill, she can attack the basket straight-line and score through contact, plus she’s a capable perimeter shooter who can get into rhythm quickly. Defensively, she will battle anyone you ask her to, big or small, and she rebounds her position well. If she could become more of a traditional point guard, I think it would help her recruiting, but small colleges would be crazy not to take a look, because she will help you win games. 99. [player_tooltip player_id="99377" first="Hannah" last="Sisk"], 5-5 CG, Princeton Community H.S. Hannah is another feisty guard, somewhat smallish, but she is long, quick, fast, and as tough as they come. She will make plays and tell you about it while she’s scoring on you. She can break people down off the dribble and get inside, or she can bury shots from around the perimeter. She has the ball skill and understanding of a point guard, but she prefers to score and has had to for Princeton to win games. She’s another one who, I think, if she could prove to be more of a traditional point guard who can score instead of a scorer first, I think it would help her recruiting. She does have athletic tools, though, she can change a game at either end of the floor, plus I like how she competes each possession. 145. [player_tooltip player_id="245962" first="Dyamond" last="Blair"], 5-4 CG, Andrean H.S. Dyamond has really taken off the last two seasons, and it has certainly helped with the 59ers success. Last season, she more than doubled her scoring from her Sophomore year. This year, she improved her scoring again, but it was her ability to handle the ball and create for others, plus her effectiveness in turning over opposing guards that she turned up a notch. Dyamond is a strong, compact, but talented North/South athlete who plays low to the ground. She takes contact well, she can get by and through defenders, and she can score it in a variety of ways inside the arc. Her perimeter shooting has remained steady, plus she shot 19% better from the line this year. She is a small college sleeper.
