In all likelihood, every freshman is in their own unique situation. Some may be starring on the JV squad, others coming off the bench on varsity. Some may even be key starters on their team. A freshman may be contributing to a state title contender this season, while others could be the building blocks for future state championship runs. Let’s look at 5 of the freshman that I can see winning a state title someday.
Na’kiya BonnerNa’kiyaBonner
5'6" | PG Detroit Edison | 2024StateMI
(PG, Detroit Edison)
This one seemed pretty obvious. Her Detroit Edison squad is the odds on favorite to win another title this year, so Bonner may have this accomplished in a short rime. But don’t think that if she does win it, that it will be her last. Bonner is a national target and elite ballhandler and scorer.
Indya DavisIndyaDavis
5'9" | SG West Bloomfield | 2024StateMI
(SG, West Bloomfield) / Summer DavisSummerDavis
5'9" | PG West Bloomfield | 2024StateMI
(PG, West Bloomfield)
It’s already hard to beat this backcourt. How will teams do it in 2 or 3 years? Both are elite program type talents that can score and distribute at a high level. Both Indya and Summer have very high basketball IQ’s, especially considering that they’re just freshmen.

5'9" | CG Detroit Country Day | 2024StateMI
(CG, Detroit Country Day)
Elam has been really impressive so far this season. She’s been a consistent scorer and has been a clutch player that has shown a lot of toughness as a freshman. Elam will be a problem for opponents for the next few years. When you add in the young talent around her like Emma AricoEmmaArico
5'6" | PG Detroit Country Day | 2024StateMIand Aysia Yokely, the future looks incredibly bright.
Jordan PetersonJordanPeterson
5'10" | PF Belleville | 2024StateMI
(PF, Birmingham Groves)
Birmingham Groves and their coaching staff may be on to something here. They are a young, but talented team, with a bright future lining up. Peterson is a do-it-all type player that every championship team needs. She’s a leader, both on and off the court, at a young age. Peterson could be that key piece that most other teams won’t be able to match.
Kate StemmerKateStemmer
5'6" | SG Saline | 2024StateMI
(SG, Saline)
Her older sister is the talk of the town right now, but don’t look past how much talent and upside Kate StemmerKateStemmer
5'6" | SG Saline | 2024StateMI
has. Ella StemmerEllaStemmer
5'10" | SG Saline | 2021StateMI
has put Saline on the brink of greatness, but I feel like Kate could keep them there. She’s an efficient scorer that makes good decisions with the basketball.
