Not all teams have started, but this past week a couple of programs got their season underway. Here’s a quick look at some players to keep an eye on from the teams who resumed play.
1. Mackenly Randolph Mackenly Randolph 5'10" | PF Sierra Canyon | 2024 State CA – Sierra Canyon 2024
A freshman, Randolph is one of the most intriguing frontcourt prospects in Southern California. She’s already got advanced footwork in the paint. She can get her shot off over the defense and she fights hard on the offensive glass. She keeps the ball high and goes right up with it. She can shoot it from midrange as well. Defensively, she has the upside to be a rim protector and interior presence. She moves her feet well and contests shots.
2. Tiarah Galvan Tiarah Galvan 5'7" | PG Mater Dei | 2021 State CA – Mater Dei 2021
Galvan is an unsigned senior and a player I tabbed as a potential breakout player over the summer. She’s a combo guard who has improved her ball-handling. She’s become a very good shooter from three-point range and she’s got a strong slashing game. Uses her speed well to attack off the bounce. On-ball, she’s one of the better defensive players on the Monarchs. She’s quick and applies strong pressure.
3. Melissa Zozulenko Melissa Zozulenko 5'7" | PG Harvard Westlake HS | 2021 State CA – Harvard Westlake 2021
Zozulenko is another senior to look out for. She’s a bit of a combo guard who can score and can be a playmaker. She has a solid slashing game and draws the defense to kick out to open shooters. She keeps the ball moving offensively and doesn’t allow the offense to stagnate. She’s a good defensive player; applies strong pressure on-ball and has the foot speed to stay in front of the player she’s guarding.
