The state finals are set. The games will take place on April 9 in East Lansing at the Breslin Center. Players have stepped up their games and are making history for their team and school. Some players that will play in the state championship games have seen their stock rise as prospects. Let’s look at 5 of those athletes that you can watch in the finals.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="253597" first="Ashley" last="Bower"] (2022, SG, Portland)</strong>
One thing is for sure - at the next prospect rankings update, Bower will move up the list. Not just a little bit, but she will skyrocket. She’s been a terrific scorer off the ball and has keyed Portland’s run to the state championship game. Bower has been an incredibly consistent shooter and scorer.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147728" first="Alaina" last="Diaz"] (2022, CG, Hudsonville)</strong>
Diaz has been doing this all year, but now in the state spotlight, everyone gets to see her game. She is almost impossible to pressure when she has the ball because she can usually simply out run the defense with her speed. When that’s not an option, Diaz is so smart with the ball and has solid handles. Mid majors should check out her game on April 9.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="244268" first="Madelyn" last="Geers"] (2024, SF, Kent City)</strong>
On a team full of stars like <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138300" first="Kenzie" last="Bowers"]</strong>, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="194461" first="Lexie" last="Bowers"]</strong>, and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27998" first="Jenna" last="Harrison"]</strong>, it can be hard for a freshman to grab the spotlight. But throughout the playoffs it’s been easy to see exactly how big of an influence that Geers has. She’s an impact player and a key to the Kent City run. Geers is a high level scorer and really attacks the glass off the wing.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="179093" first="Jaxi" last="Long"] (2022, CG, Newaygo)</strong>
Long is a junior that college coaches will want to keep a close eye on. She’s a top 100 prospect that has shown a terrific upside throughout the pressure of the state playoffs. Long has consistently been a top notch scoring threat. She’s show excellent speed and control of the ball.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="178862" first="Mia" last="Riley"] (2022, PG, Fowler)</strong>
Riley has been the steady force in the backcourt all season long for Fowler. Now she’s doing it in front of a statewide audience. She’s shown the ability to stuff a stat sheet with point, rebounds, and assists. Riley isn’t just a stat sheet stuffer though. She does it all while leading her team to wins.
