Having had the opportunity to watch a large number of 17U-14U teams Saturday, April 10, from several states compete at the MAYB Hall of Fame National Showcase tournament I have some notes to share on 2022 point guards who stood out.

She has a fairly quick release off the catch.
[player_tooltip player_id="125000" first="Ashley" last="Carrillo"], 5’6", Liberal, SSA Gameball 17U - While Carrillo was extremely quick with the ball she stood out especially in other areas. Her quickness, strength, and ability to elevate was on display in the rebounding and shot blocking departments. Carrillo gathered several offensive rebounds.
[player_tooltip player_id="124980" first="Asia" last="Dawson"], 5’6", Wichita East, SSA Gameball 17U - Dawson’s handles, speed, and scoring ability were punctuated by a pair of end-to-end takes off rebounds. The first she beat nearly everyone down the floor and used a terrific change of pace move to quickly avoid a basket defender and get the lay-in. Moments later she sprinted by everyone for another easy lay-in.

She passed well and especially showed great sense against full court pressure. Defensively James proved difficult to get past off the bounce.
[player_tooltip player_id="48295" first="Harper" last="Schreiner"], 5’7", Eudora, Wheat State Elite Paul 2022 - On display was Schreiner’s great half-court vision and passing ability off the bounce. She also showed her athleticism on finishes and quickness to disrupt defensively.
[player_tooltip player_id="260019" first="Caryn" last="Yoder"], 5’4", Hesston, KS Dream Team SW - Yoder’s handles and transition speed to lead transition offense were very good. She creates well in the half court and has a soft perimeter shot.
