Continue ReadingThe end of a fast moving first day of play yielded many notable performances. Below is a list of point guards that had a good opening day of the Battle in the Sunflower in no particular order. Unfortunately several teams were not viewed during Day 1 but are up to bat for my eyes on Day 2.
Morgan Borgstadt Morgan Borgstadt 5'11" | SF Verdigris | 2023 State OK , 6’0″, Virdigris (OK), 2023, Shock 2022 Black – Borgstadt showed strength and good movement on interior scores. With handles to get into the lane, she protected the ball well on wing drives to finish.
Emily Robinson Emily Robinson 5'10" | SF Caddo | 2023 State OK , 5’10″, Caddo (OK), 2023, Oklahoma Fusion 2022 Peterson – Robinson showed strong handles especially 1-on-1. She showed good strength, athleticism, and the ability to score inside versus contact.
Avery Barber, 5’9″, St. Joe Central (MO), 2023, KC Royalty 2022 – Barber showed good physicality on both ends of the flower. On basket drives she showed the ball on basket attacks and finished well.
Mariyah Noel Mariyah Noel 6'0" | SF Bonner Springs | 2023 State KS , 5’11″, Bonner Springs (KS), 2023, KC Royalty 2022 – Noel made a strong case for being the most versatile player not just at her position but also on the floor all day. She showed a good first step to get to attack speed as well as inside game capabilities. Noel scored very well in the mid-range off the bounce and out of face-up and back-to-basket games. Once inside, she put together multiple post moves to create a shot.
Kate Neuhaus, 6’0″, Mustang (OK), 2022, Oklahoma Swish 2022 Foreman – With good size, strength, and interior athleticism Newhaus worked the screen and roll as well as anyone to get open. She also showed good hops when finishing and competing for rebounds. With solid speed with the ball, Neuhaus also showed the ball skills and ability to get to the basket off the bounce.
