With a new recruiting window opening up this month, Twitter has been blowing up with all kinds of good news for players around the great state of Oklahoma. Here is a quick glimpse at some of the offers and commitments that have been announced recently.
Marcayla Johnson | 6-0 G | Tulsa, OK | 2025 | @MarcaylaJohnso1
Already with a D-I offer in the bag from Arkansas State, Marcayla took an unofficial visit to Baylor this past week. As a 2025, that’s a pretty big deal to already be on the radar of the new staff at one of the best women’s basketball schools in the country. Johnson recently played in the Super-16 All-Stars game and was All-S16 after a stellar performance that saw her put up eight points and grab six rebounds. She is a very long guard with great handles. She plays tough inside and is a very bouncy and intelligent player. During the Super-16 game her basketball IQ was on display as she consistently made the best basketball play and the one that would help her team the most. As just a freshman this year, expect Johnson to make some big noise in Oklahoma high school basketball for a while - as well as get more attention from great schools like Baylor.

Peytin has had a very busy June with several offers coming in and a lot of visits taking place. She has received offers from Pratt JC in Kansas, Marshalltown CC in Iowa and NAIA school Cottey College in Missouri all in the last few weeks. Gilman is the flat-out star for Locust Grove and is involved in every play on both ends of the floor. She is a tough defender and her length gives opponents major problems. She scores consistently from all three levels and is just a hard-nosed type of player who is willing to do anything to get her team the ’W’. As a rising senior, I expect more offers to come for Gilman over the course of the summer and some school is going to get a commitment in the next year that will make their coach very, very happy. [player_tooltip player_id="211919" first="Peytin" last="Gilman"] is a great player and all of these schools would be very lucky to have her.
[player_tooltip player_id="197964" first="Elise" last="Hill"] | 5-7 G | Holland Hall (Tulsa), OK | 2023 | @EliseHill2023
[player_tooltip player_id="197964" first="Elise" last="Hill"] is one of those under the radar players who I have gone out of my way to make sure that coaches know about. She works her butt off all game long and is the clear leader for her team. She can score in bunches and is not shy to play defense and do all of the little things that will help her Holland Hall team win. Apparently the coaches at Oral Roberts - right up the street from Holland Hall - have taken notice and offered the 2023 grad on her visit to campus. Coach Cussen has led ORU to the NCAA tournament in the past and turned them into a very competitive team in the Summit League. Congrats to Elise for receiving her first offer and it being a Division-I offer to boot!
[player_tooltip player_id="197958" first="Morgan" last="Borgstadt"] | 5-11 G/F | Verdigris, OK | 2023 | @BorgstadtMorgan
Another 2023 who picked up her first offer (and then a second) in the last few weeks is our No.16-ranked player in the class of 2023. First came an offer from D-II Arkansas Tech and then came one from Oklahoma Christian which is also a D-II. However, unlike Arkansas Tech, Oklahoma Christian happens to be the school that her older sister Lexy plays at beginning this season. Morgan has really showed what she can do this summer on the PGH Circuit and other various showcases and tourneys and has only improved her stock with some really good performances. She is a great scorer with a big, strong frame which she has great control over. She can play inside or outside efficiently and can absolutely light it up if given the chance. As she heads into her junior season, I expect plenty of coaches to be heading to Verdigris to get a better look at this very, very good basketball player.
[player_tooltip player_id="197965" first="Gracy" last="Wernli"] | 5-10 G | Bixby, OK | 2023 | @GracyWernli
[player_tooltip player_id="197963" first="Meredith" last="Mayes"] | 6-2 F | Bixby, OK | 2023 | @MeredithM2023
I’ve got to admit, I was shocked when I saw these commitments on my Twitter timeline. Both Gracy and Meredith committed to Abilene Christian simultaneously and I have to imagine that Head Coach Julie Goodenough was jumping for joy or dancing or doing something to celebrate. To land one of these players is good, but to land both the No. 8 and No. 25 players in the rankings all at once is just unbelievable. Wernli lit up the PGH Circuit all summer with her unbelievable shooting from deep, scoring more than 20 in each of the Regional Final games. Mayes secured double-digit rebounds in all of those games and was an absolute beast in the paint in every single game. These two are going to take their tremendous skills and best friend chemistry to Abilene in a few years and I fully expect the Wildcats to be an NCAA Tourney team yet again. I’d also add that there is a very good chance these two are state champions by the time they arrive on campus in Abilene after reaching the state finals last season. Congrats to both players!
