Day 2 of the NCAA Live period saw teams settle back to their old selves. They shook off the June rust and team camp lulls. Now that players were back with their travel ball clubs, they were firing on all cylinders. With the many stops around the country where Tennessee teams played, girls really put on a show for all in attendance. From Indy to Louisville, from Texas to PA, Tennessee girls showed out and displayed why they rank amongst some of the best in this sport. With NCAA-certified tournaments all over the country, Tennessee teams descended to some hotbed cities. Our girls got to play against some top competition, coming out victorious in many contests. As a scout, I was pretty proud and impressed to see what girls these programs brought to represent this state. As day 2 concluded, there were some girls who stuck out in many of the coach’s and scout’s eyes. Reese Beaty (5’7/ PG/ York Institute/ FBC Reign/ Class or 2025)- This young baller always puts on a spectacular show. She is a walking double- double any time she steps on the floor (in points and assists). Reese is a floor general who can do it all for her club. Offensively, she can score the rock, possess create court visions that allow her to dish it, and of course, can dial it from deep. Defensively, she is a threat like no other. Steals, deflections, she does the dirty work that leads to transition buckets. She may be young, but she is racking up big-time offers early in her career. Look for this gym rat to continue on an upwards trajectory. JeNyiah Silas ( 5’9/ SF/ Lee HS (AL)/ EAB Tennessee/ Class of 2022)- Long and lanky, Silas has a great frame on her. She can finish around the rim, dial it from deep, and possess nice mid-range capabilities. Defensively, she utilizes her speed to jump passes that need to transition buckets. She is a big rebound contributor that isn’t afraid of contact. Look for this girl to turn some heads through the remainder of the travel ball season. [player_tooltip player_id="245369" first="Rachel" last="Griffin"] (6’3/ C/ Fayette Ware/ Team Thad/ Class of 2024)- Blessed with great length and size, this young lady has so many tangibles that check a lot of boxes. Around the painted area, she is a bucket, going through contact to finish at the rim. She can run, jump, soar, you name it, she has such an explosive lower body. Defensively, she is an enforcer, blocking shots and controlling the boards. Keep an eye on this talented young lady as she progresses through her HS career. Kyera Thronsbury (5’8 / CG/ Belfry HS (KY) / East TN Air Thunder/ Class of 2025)- She has put up impressive numbers this past season averaging almost 20 points and 7+ rebounds. She is an offensive threat that needs to be guarded at all times. Kyera has torn up the AAU circuit this summer, even playing above her age in competition levels. She can score from all levels of the floor. Though the 3 ball is her forte, she can put it on the floor and shoot the mid-range consistently. She is a rebound contributor, starting transition opportunities for her ball club. Look for her to receive many offers early in her career. [player_tooltip player_id="285334" first="Keeleigh" last="Rogers"] (5’10/ CG/ Farragut/ Tennessee Flight Trotters/ Class of 2023)- She’s got some range to her game. This CG can shoot it and get to the rim. Blessed with great size and speed, she is a threat in so many ways. Pull up jumpers, catch and shoot 3s, this kid has a lot of weapons in her tool belt. Defensively, she has great width that allows her to defend like the best of them. She keeps picking up offers as we speak. That trend will keep rolling for sure. Lauren Hassell (6’3/ PF/ Clarksville Christian/ Tennessee Sol/ Class of 2027)- Yes. That isn’t a typo. Ms. Hassell is “stuntin like her daddy.” She will be the next Candace Parker from the Tennessee area. Blessed with height and a humongous wingspan, this young gem will have coaches all over her. Playing sophomore basketball as a 6th grader, Lauren can hold her own and then some. She can shoot it from multiple levels, has great handles, and can score it through contact. She has multiple facets to her game where she can play her back to the basket or face up. Defensively, no need to even comment. Just use your imagination on what she can do out there. This girl hasn’t stopped growing and as she continues to train and get better, look for her to be a top prospect around here.
