Prospect Spotlight: Mary Reiber (2020)

Coming off a solid junior season in which she helped lead Olathe Northwest to the Kanss 6A state championships, 2020 guard Mary Reiber is gearing up for a big offseason. At 5’5, she is a strong defender and an all-around player. She can score the ball and brings a versatility to the floor. Reiber says it was a fun junior season with the Ravens as the team took second at the DeSoto and Newton Tournaments and placed fourth at the state tournament. “ Playing with Olathe Northwest this year was really fun … I thought I had a great season all around. Yes I made some mistakes and had bad games but overall I feel I helped the team a lot just by staying solid each game,” she said. Reiber said she is looking to improve her offensive game this offseason, working on becoming a more complete all-around and more consistent player. “I want to keep getting better at shooting and being more constant each game,” she says. “I also want to get better at scoring by making moves to get myself open. But always want to stay a good defender and do my best at what I can control 100 percent of the time.” Reiber says her parents have had the biggest influence on her basketball career to date. “They love sports and have always loved basketball,” Reiber said. “They may not be professionals at basketball and know every single thing but they push me in a positive way and always encourage me. They have been helping me through my whole basketball career and continue to do so.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span> “But I can't forget about every single coach that has coached me because without them I would never be the basketball player I am right now.” A fan of Kansas, Reiber says she is a fan of Frank Mason and Devonte Graham. “I really liked watching Frank Mason and Devonte Graham because I am kind of like them,” she says. “How they attack the rim and take charge on the court is how I would like to play. On the women's side I like watching Kylee Kopatich because she is a great shooter and was solid on all the other aspects of the game like assists, rebounds, etc.” Reiber has heard from several college programs, including Eastern Illinois and Smith College, among others. “I am keeping an open mind to all colleges and am seeing where it takes me,” she says,
