Here’s a Way-too-Early Class A Preview
Bismarck Century
The Patriots were undefeated last season and dominant the entire way. Century won’t likely be going anywhere as the Patriots bring back Lauren Ware, Julia Fitterer and Chloe Markovic. Ashton Kinnebrew is a player to watch as well.
Fargo Shanley
The Deacons could be the best team in the EDC next year. Reile Payne is probably going to be the preseason Player-of-the-Year in the league after averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds as a junior and Hadley Huber is an excellent running mate after averaging 12 points and nearly five assists.
Bismarck Legacy
The Sabers were one of the best teams in the state last year and won multiple games in the state tournament. Legacy should be strong again in 2019-20 as it returns three starters and two more bench players led by Ariana Berryhill and Alexis Dressler.
Devils Lake
The Firebirds were dominant in the EDC this past season and should be strong again next winter as their top two scorers, Jes Mertens and Ramsey Brown return after all-conference seasons.
Bismarck St. Mary’s
Bismarck St. Mary’s is set to return three double figure scorers including Maria Mann and Hailie Schweitzer. The Saints were up and down throughout last year but there’s a lot of talent in that program still and they could be a return state tournament team next winter.
Jamestown
The Bluejays graduate Courtney Peterson but return key starters in Kameron Selvig and Grace Hegerle who are both potential all-WDA type players. Ella Falk is a player to watch for the future and the Bluejays bring back several other key rotation pieces.
Grand Forks Red River
The Roughriders had a great run late in the year to get to the state tournament and they should be strong again next winter. Shelby Frank should be one of the better forwards in the EDC and Alex Page and Jasmine Sondrol return as starting guards.
Fargo Davies
The Eagles were extremely young last season and predictably inconsistent. But with two double figure scorers in Taylor Fey and Ryleigh Wacha both back plus several quality bench players, they should be upper-echelon in the EDC.
Bismarck
The Demons didn’t have a double figure scorer last season but they won 15 games anyways. They bring back five key players including Cadee Rychman, Olivia Dickerson and Mandie Picard.
West Fargo
The Packers went 13-7 in EDC play this past winter and while they lose a handful of solid seniors, they return arguably their two best players. McKenna Becher was an all-league player as a junior, averaging 15 points and more than six rebounds and eighth-grader Chloe Pfau has a chance to be one of the best players in the EDC already next season.
