Each week we will release new articles about a handful of players that stood out above the rest. This article is going to be focusing on the talent that has been shown throughout the first week of December in Arizona Class A.
Talia Estrada – Senior – 5’4″ – Leading Edge Academy
Estrada is a five-foot-four senior guard for the Leading Edge Academy Lady Spartans that has really hit the ground running. She is averaging 17.3 points per game (leading the 1A in PPG) and 4.1 rebounds per game. Talia is also averaging 3.6 steals and 2.5 assists per game to contribute to the three wins to start off the 2021-2022 high school basketball season. #4 had a standout performance against San Carlos High School last week (12/10) where she finished the game with a career-high 39 points, 8 rebounds (3 on the offensive end), 3 steals, and an assist. This four-year Varsity veteran has taken control and will be one to watch the rest of the year.
Abbigail Colquitt Abbigail Colquitt 5'8" Mayer | 2022 AZ – Senior – 5’7″ – Mayer High School
The senior captain this year for the Mayer Lady Wildcats is five-foot-seven forward, Abbigail Colquitt Abbigail Colquitt 5'8" Mayer | 2022 AZ and she is off to a great start. With a 4-1 record to start off the 2021-2022 high school basketball season, Colquitt is averaging a very impressive 16.6 points per game and 14.4 rebounds per game. She is also averaging 4.4 steals per game and 1.7 assists per game to add to her already impeccable stat line. She has played up for this team at the Varsity level since her freshman year so there is no doubt that she is a well-oiled machine when it comes to the Arizona 1A. Abbigail has been awarded the MaxPreps Player of the Game award more times than I can count on both hands throughout her time with the Lady Wildcats and ended up adding one more to the list after her performance on Tuesday night (12/14). What a great leader and mentor for all of the younger players to look up to at Mayer High School.
Jasmine Olivar Jasmine Olivar 5'6" | SG Xavier College Prep | 2024 State AZ – Sophomore – 5’5″ – Fort Thomas High School
Olivar is a five-foot-five sophomore for the Fort Thomas Lady Apaches that has played up at the Varsity level since her freshman year. She has started off the 2021-2022 season hot averaging 13.3 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game for a total of 120 points scored so far. Jasmine is also averaging 3.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game to contribute to her team’s 10-2 record in mid-December. In a 6 point win over Alcheasy last week (12/10), the guard put up 21 points, shot 91% from the free-throw line, brought down 8 rebounds (4 offensive), 3 assists, a block, and a steal. Keep this underclassman on your radar!
Paige Parry – Senior – 5’10″ – Mogollon High School
Parry is a five-foot-ten senior that plays center and forward for the Mogollon Lady Mustangs. At the halfway mark of December, Paige is averaging 11.3 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game followed by 2.2 steals and 1.7 assists per game. She is going to work the inside for her points and does not have to rely on a deep jumper to make an impact during the game. In a loss to Joseph City on Tuesday night (12/14), the senior finished the game with a season-high of 20 points, 6 rebounds (3 offensive), 2 steals, and an assist. Solid player and leader for her team.
Jasmine Longhoma – Junior – Grand Canyon High School
Jasmine is a junior guard for the Grand Canyon Lady Phantoms that has started off the season averaging 13.3 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, 3.1 steals per game and, 1.7 blocks per game. The multi-sport athlete has put up big numbers in the majority of the games so far to help Grand Canyon start out with a 4-4 record. Longhoma has hit at least one three-pointer in every game this year except one, putting her at 11 three’s made by mid-December. She is also a big factor down low and will make it tough on anyone that tries to come into the lane. With 12 blocks this season, do not think that it will be easy to score on this big-time player.
