Boo Williams Sportsplex hosted some good basketball this week to close out the year. The games were entertaining, competitive and many of the games on the final day were decided in the final minutes. Read below for some of the standout players in the top three divisions. Gold Division Jalyn Brown-2022-New Hope The MVP of the gold division, leading her team to the championship win with 18pts. This young lady can do it all, she has great size and her length is disruptive defensively. Her athleticism and ability to move her feet and block shots allows her to defend the perimeter and post. She is smooth with the ball, can shoot the three and utilizes a variety of moves off the bounce to score in the paint. Laila Reynolds-2023-New Hope Good size, speed and skill set on the perimeter, can play inside or out. She has nice footwork and displayed various moves to score. She is an elite athlete, causes disruption defensively with her ability to guard anyone on the court. Yasmine Brown-2022-Kings Fork Yasmine has taken her game to another level this year. She was a bucket getter all tournament, scoring 29pts in the opening game. She followed up with two 21pt efforts. Yasmine used her athleticism and quickness to get to the rim, she attacks hard in transition gaining an advantage over taller players. She scored when her team needed it most. Defensively, she moves her feet well harassing ball handlers. Her on ball pressure created easy scoring opportunities and made it difficult for opposing teams to get into a good flow of the game. Cyriah Griffin-2024-Kings Fork Cyriah was on of the top point guards this tournament. She displayed high IQ, great court vision and makes her teammates better. Defensively, she moves her feet well and applies pressure to opposing guards and was able to cause several turnovers. She also showed her ability to get a bucket when her team needs it. Zakiya Stephenson-2023-New Hope Came off the bench in the championship game and provided instant offense. She is quick with the ball, attacks the lane hard and finishes in the paint. Zakiyah is athletic, ability to score from all three levels but doesn't settle for jump shots when she can get into the paint. She has good body control and handled the ball well with pressure. Defensively, she is quick and reads passing lanes for easy steals and deflections. Ryanne Allen-2022-Archbishop Wood Vanderbilt commit had a big scoring effort of 31 pts and led her team to a tough win over a strong Kings Fork team on the final day. She has great size at 6'1 with athleticism and a smooth three point shot. She is a good rebounder and good defender with length and shot blocking ability. Kadidia Toure-Good Counsel JMU commit had a strong tournament and was selected to the All-Tournament team. This young lady is a beast, she has great size at 6'2 and strength. Very difficult to contain one-on-one. She is physical, powers through contact for rebounds and buckets. She has a steady, mature game ready for the collegiate level. Bethel Ekperigha-2022-Victory Christian Quick, scoring lead guard who controls the tempo of the game. Plays at a fast pace, pushing the ball in transition and took advantage of easy scoring opportunities by beating everyone down the floor. Showed her ability to play either guard position effectively, nice handles and utilized hesitation and change of direction to back the defense up. Defensively, she reads passing lanes and applies constant pressure. Her ability to move her feet makes her hard to beat off the dribble. She was her teams leading scorer this week against top competition. Nyla Brooks-2025-Bishop Ireton Stellar freshman on a strong Ireton team, can play any position at the high school level. She is athletic and long, standing at 6' and growing. She has a smooth handle, nice mid-range game and finds open areas around basket to receive passes from team or get offensive rebounds. Unselfish teammate with the ability to create for herself. Defensively, she can guard anyone applying pressure at the top of Ireton's zone while also protecting the paint. As good as she is right now, she has tremendous upside. Lauren Mingo-2022-Bishop Ireton Lauren's physicality was on display, she just over powers other players on her way to the paint and finishes through contact. She provides leadership and intangibles. An excellent rebounder from the guard position and plays strong defense. Her consistent play on both sides of the ball earned her All-Tournament team selection. Silver Division Kiyomi McMiller-2024-Trinity Collegiate School Kiyomi was the top scorer all week averaging over 32ppg, she opened up the tournament with a 41 point outing, scored 23 in her second game and finished off with leading her team to a come from behind championship win with 34 points. This kid has the wow factor, her ball handling and moves are elite and she has a deep three point shot. Her play earned her MVP of the silver division. Mingaile Urmuleviciute-2022-Trinity Collegiate Reliable and consistent, she is the perfect compliment to Kiyomi McMiller. This young lady showcased her ability to score in the paint and midrange consistently and stepped out to make 3s as well. She has great size at 6'4, agile and able to put the ball on the floor from midrange to get to the basket. Her consistency and ability to hit big shots was key to Trinity winning the championship. Madyson Burney-2023-S3 Academy Increased her scoring output each game, finishing with 19pts in a tough win against Riverdale Baptist. Averaged 17pts per game. Bronze Division Khyala Ngudo-2023-Dillard MVP of the bronze division, leading her team to the championship in a tough win. Standing at 6'3 she was a double double machine this week. Her length on the defensive end was problematic for opponents, strong defender protecting the paint without fouling. She works for good position in the post and gets offensive rebounds for easy put backs. Cate Carlson-2023-Catholic Opened up the tournament with a 30 point game in a close win. Cate can flat out score the ball. She has good size on the wing at 5'10 creating match-up problems for opponents. Strong body, good balance and is able to finish through contact. She is a willing passer who looks to get her teammates involved, sees the court well and can handle the ball. Kyraha Parnell-2024-Virginia Episcopal Long, athletic player standing at 6'1. Moves her feet well on defense, can guard wing and post. She boxes out and rebounds at a high level. Offensively, she works inside/out, can shoot the three and rebounds offensively for put backs. An off-season in the weight room will take her game to the next level. AJ Richardson-2023-Manor Athletic, quick scoring guard. She has smooth handle and can score in bunches. She has a nice arsenal of moves, can plan either guard position. AJ has nice pace to her game, quick first step gets her past first line of defense for the score of dish to teammates. Good IQ, reads passing lanes for easy steals. Asante Brown-2022-Manor Asante was consistent and reliable all tournament. She averaged 17pts/game and she works hard for rebounds. She is quick off the floor and runs the lane well. She is 5'9, but had no problem out rebounding taller players with sheer effort. Zakyah Lindsay-2024-Kempsville Young, physical guard who can bang in the post. She got better as the tournament progressed finishing off her last game with 28 pts. Zakyah plays hard on both ends, explosive athlete and runs the floor well. She absorbs contact, finishes at the rim and can shoot the deep ball. She led the bronze division in scoring averaging 23ppg. Kiyah Fitchett-2024-Kempsville Quick shooting guard with nice stroke from 3pt line. Kiyah is a tenacious competitor and defender, she was aggressive in the passing lanes which led to several steals and easy buckets.
