A battle between two undefeated teams ended in a 56-47 Dracut victory. Dracut’s speed, athleticism, and physicality were too much for Norwell to overcome. A huge statement win for Dracut as we head into the New Year. Here are the standouts from the game.
Player of the Game:
Cameron Watkins Cameron Watkins 5'7" | SF Dracut | 2022 State New E – Dracut – 5’8’’ – SF/PF. ’22
Watkins is fascinating because she is 5’8’’ and a natural wing but plays the 4/5 for Dracut. She outworked everyone inside, was always a step ahead of Norwell’s defenders, and earned herself countless trips to the free-throw line. Finishing with a quiet 24 points, Watkins got the majority of her baskets simply because she wanted to win this game more than any other player on the court. She was aggressive on the glass, active on defense, and was the main reason why Norwell could not gain control of the game in the first half.
Dracut Standouts:
Ashlee Talbot Ashlee Talbot 5'6" | PG Dracut | 2023 State New E – 5’6’’ – PG – ’23
The game completely flipped when Talbot found her rhythm in the second half. She scored all 8 of her points in the final two quarters while making a handful of momentum-changing plays on both sides of the ball. Whenever Norwell went on a run or put themselves in a position to control the game, Talbot would get a timely deflection or make a dazzling play on offense that was soul-crushing to the opposition. During that period, the effort and spark she gave the team were monumental to Dracut taking down one of the best teams in the M.I.A.A.
Tatiannah Fevry Tatiannah Fevry 5'6" | PG Dracut | 2022 State New E – 5’6’’ – CG – ’22
Fevry was consistent throughout the game, contributing 10 points in Dracut’s win. Her slashing ability was vital to her teams’ offense, and she showed confidence in her jump shot. Fevry was impactful on defense as well. Her athleticism bothered the Norwell guards, and her activity forced turnovers and rushed decisions.
Norwell Standout:
Grace Oliver Grace Oliver 6'2" | PF Noble & Greenough | 2024 State New E – 6’1’’ – PF – ’23
Oliver is one of the best power forwards in the ’23 class and has been off to a terrific start this season. She had 14 of the hardest points anyone could score, considering how much attention Dracut gave her all game long. Oliver had to fight through double teams and relentless help defense and had to really work to get her shots. What I liked about Oliver was her unselfishness. I thought she saw the floor well and did a good job setting up her shooters.
