There are a few girls that I am specifically questioning their position. I think they all have potential to rise in the rankings but I need to watch them a few more times before making my decision. Here are the top 2020 forwards to watch this summer!
Ali Zelaya Millennium #2
I went back and forth on ranking Zelaya. I eventually decided to place her at #2 but after seeing her play last weekend, she could be #1. I still need to see her play a couple of times before making the move. Last weekend, she looked like the best forward in the state. She has incredible footwork in the low post and can stretch the floor out a little bit with her shooting. I still think she has a lot of untapped potential and think she will only continue to get better and better as the summer goes on.
Dyamond Butler-Worley Shadow Mountain #8
I think Butler-Worley needs to be ranked higher. I am seriously considering moving her up and have been reaching out to fellow writers and coaches asking their opinion. I saw her play last weekend and while she did impress me, I have seen her play better. Could have just been a bad game, everyone has those. I want to give her another chance to make her case on the court. During the state playoffs, she looked terrific! I want to see that level of play throughout the summer before moving her up.
Dustee Murrell Copper Canyon #25
I think we were wrong by ranking Murrell at #25. Having seen her play last weekend, I see no reason why she can’t be a top 20/top 15 player. She still has a lot of room to grow but has a ton of potential. She can flat out shoot the ball! She doesn’t miss from deep. However, I still want to see her grow as a ball handler. If she increased her ball handling, she would easily make the jump. I hope to see that from her this summer.
