I had the opportunity to witness some brilliant shooting performances this past season. It feels like every prospect in this modern era of basketball is at least capable of knocking down a jump shot. That being said, there will always be that special group of individuals who separate themselves from the pack with their exceptional shooting ability. I believe that these six players fall into that category.
Mackenzie Nolan | 2023 | 5’8’’ Shooting Guard | Prestonwood Christian Academy – Nolan easily put on the best single-game shooting performance of any prospect I scouted this season, boy or girl. The 2023 guard buried 11 threes in a game against Trinity Christian Academy. Yes, you read that correctly. She did so efficiently too, shooting 50% from behind the arc on her way to a 35-point outing. She kept extending her range as the game went on and never cooled off, additionally showing she can hit from the catch or off the bounce. It was truly sensational to see in person.
Aniya Cramer | 2022 | 6’1” Power Forward | Little Elm HS – Having a big who can genuinely be a threat as a shooter from the outside is invaluable nowadays. Cramer is exactly that. She has one of the smoothest releases in the DFW area and that jumper is as pure as they come. Her height allows her to shoot over closeouts, and she is fantastic in pick-and-pop scenarios. The Little Elm forward ended the season shooting an efficient 34% from three-point land.
Taylor Dailey | 2022 | 5’7’’ Shooting Guard | Wylie East HS – Dailey can get it done from all three levels as a scorer, but her mid-range and three-point shooting were highlights both times I saw her in action. She is terrific at hitting shots off the bounce and can create her own jump shot from inside and outside the arc. Furthermore, she finished the year shooting a solid 30% from three.
Audrey Cline | 2024 | 5’6’’ Shooting Guard | Frisco Independence HS – Cline is another shot-maker who can put it in the bottom of the net from mid to long-range. She is fearless when it comes to releasing shots with a defender in her face. The soon-to-be junior two-guard logged 11 games in which she made three or more triples, proving that she is a consistent threat from the outside. She is someone to keep an eye on this summer and beyond.
Malayla Harold | 2022 | 5’7’’ Shooting Guard | Wylie East HS – If you haven’t noticed the theme by now, efficiency and consistency are the two biggest things for me when assessing shooters. Harold has them both. She shot 32% from behind the arc this season, impressively totaling 51 made threes. The 2022 sniper compiled five games with four or more made threes during the 2021-22 season. She drained three triples when I saw her back in December, as well as a good-looking off-balanced mid-range bucket.
Sam Tillson | 2024 | 6’3’’ Power Forward/Small Forward | McKinney HS – Tilson was a double-double machine this season. She is a skilled big with the ability to stretch out to mid to long-range. The 6-foot-3-inch forward is fluid and can score off the bounce, and even has a nice-looking turnaround shot that she can go to in the post. She is fluid and crafty, a dangerous combination at that size. I’m eager to see how much more she can add to her already versatile game.
