The Florida Dairy Farmers in partnership with the FHSAA select the Player of the Years in each class. Last week the winners were announced. Here are the 1A-7A State Farmers Player of the Years.
1A – Kailani Lindsey Kailani Lindsey 6'1" | PF Wildwood | 2023 State FL (Wildwood) – Class of 2023
Lindsey is a 6’0 forward/center who led Wildwood to the 1A State Championship game. She averaged 11.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, dominanting the interior for Wildwood, helping them to a 19-5 record. Lindsey, a junior, makes this award a family affair joining her older sister, Kari Niblack, and brother, Marcus Niblack, both of whom previously won the award.
2A – Taliah Scott Taliah Scott 5'8" | SG St. John's Country Day | 2023 State #31 Nation FL (St Johns Country Day) – Class of 2023
Scott was one of the state’s most prolific scorers, averaging 31.5 points per game, leading St Johns Country Day to a 21-6 record. At 5’9, Scott is a high-volume offensive scorer, who looks to put the ball in the basket every time she touches it. She had multiple 40- and 50-point games this season, showcasing her ability to knock it down from deep, attack off the dribble and finish at the rim. Scott, Junior guard is verbally committed to the University of Arkansas.
3A – Tonie Morgan Tonie Morgan 5'9" | PG FSUHS | 2022 State #18 Nation FL (FSU) – Class of 2022
Morgan is a Georgia Tech signee and one of the most polished offensive players in the country. She has a high basketball IQ, consistently running her team’s offense, making the extra pass and advancing the ball to the open player, while still finding her own scoring opportunities. She does a great job playing with a calm presence on the court, rarely turning the ball over, and creating easy shots for her teammates. She has a strong, athletic build and is a two way player, who is not only a great offensive player but a great defensive player too!
4A – Nyla Harris Nyla Harris 6'2" | PF Lake Highland Prep | 2022 State #34 Nation FL (Lake Highland Prep) – Class of 2022
Harris has been one of the top post players in the country for the past two years. She is a 6’2 skilled forward / center who can play inside and out. You don’t have to look much farther than the 4A State Championship game to see the impact she makes on both ends of the court, where she dropped 26 points on 12/16 from the field and grabbed 21 rebounds, leading Lake Highland Prep to a State Championship. She has great size, great athleticism, great skill, and great versatility, which is why she will be suiting it up for one of the top college programs in the country next season, University of Louisville.
5A – Ta’Niya Latson Ta’Niya Latson 5'8" | CG American Heritage | 2022 State #47 Nation FL (American Heritage Plantation) – Class of 2022
Latson relocated to Florida for her Senior year and picked up right where she left off in Georgia for her Senior season, winning another state championship and dropping buckets along the way. The 5’8 guard is signed to Florida State and was selected as a McDonald’s All-American this past season. Her 2021-22 stat line says it all, averaging 27.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 5.3 steals. Her scoring ability is impressive to watch, taking defenders off the dribble with ease and making everyone look like they are playing in slow motion, while she is playing in fast forward!
6A – Jada Eads Jada Eads 5'6" | PG Lake Highland Prep | 2024 State FL (Wekiva) – Class of 2024
Eads is just a sophomore but widely known as one of the state’s most prolific scorers. She is in her range the second she steps on the court, truly capable of launching it from anywhere once she crosses the half court line. She shot 39% from field 32% from 3, knocking down two 3-pointers per game while getting to the free line five times a game.
7A – Trinity Turner Trinity Turner 5'7" | CG Dr. Phillips | 2024 State FL (Dr Phillips) – Class of 2024
The future is bright in Florida, with both Eads and Trinity Turner Trinity Turner 5'7" | CG Dr. Phillips | 2024 State FL winning player of the year honors as Sophomores. Turner helped lead Dr. Phillips to a state championship in dramatic fashion, putting her team on her back in the 2nd half, defeating Miami Sr HS 47-45 with Turner scoring 17 of her 19 points in the 2nd half, playing every second of the game. The class of 2024 has an exceptional combination of athleticism, offensive skill, basketball IQ, and leadership. She plays hard, with ton of energy and has a strong competitive spirit and wants to win at all costs!
