The Class of 2023 as a whole has been quick to either narrow down their lists of colleges, or even choose their Fall of 2023 destinations. A lot of this can be attributed to a group of prospects and parents who has seen the aftermath of COVID-19, the additional fifth year for college players, and the effects the transfer portal has caused throughout all of college basketball, not just the NCAA Division-1 level. Beginning with this article, I will be writing a handful of reports pointing out several of the state’s uncommitted prospects. If you see someone below you believe has already made their college decision, please let us know so we can continue to update these reports. The following ladies in our 2023 Top-25 are uncommitted, to the best of our knowledge.
Laila is a very athletic forward who had an outstanding Spring & Summer grassroots season. She has a great frame, strength, speed, quickness at her size, and good bounce. She has continually developed her perimeter skillset over the years, so she is a real threat outside. Add to that her ability to attack the basket, absorb contact, and finish against bigger defenders, making her a dual threat. On August 8, Laila publicly narrowed her list to these five schools: Boston College, DePaul, Marquette, Maryland, and North Carolina.
Asia still remains highly under-recruited, but she really began putting herself on the map this Spring & Summer. She was strong for her Example Sports team, plus she showed out as an Indiana Junior All-Star. In the June game versus the Seniors, Asia poured in 20 points on 8-12 shooting in just 17 minutes of action. She can score it at all three levels, and she’s really starting to shoot the perimeter jumper more consistently. She has ball skill and can create offense, plus she has the ability to become an elite on-ball defender.
Hailey Smith Hailey Smith 5’10” | SG Fishers | 2023 State IN & Olivia Smith Olivia Smith 5’10” | SG Fishers | 2023 State IN , or “The Twins” as everyone seems to know them, have been causing havoc for other team’s backcourts since they stepped foot on the Fishers campus. Now as Seniors, they’ll be looking to lead one of the best teams in the state (if not #1). Their combination of athleticism, strength, and toughness absolutely frustrates opponents, helping them win the mental battle most times out. They relentlessly pressure the ball 84-feet and they rebound their positions well, plus they are constantly on attack offensively, driving through opposing defenses, absorbing contact, and finishing at the rim and earning repeated trips to the free throw line.
MaKaya had an unfortunate injury hit her early in the Spring, so she missed most of the grassroots season, and that could linger into the high school season. At the same time, she is a very recruitable prospect who will fly a little under the radar until she is back on the floor. She is strong, physical, and assertive. She’s also a nice athlete with some bounce. She plays with a great motor, a competitive fire, and she’s able to play at the basket in the mid-post, or around the perimeter. It will be nice to see her back in action.
Josie is somewhat unique, because she possesses the combination of size, strength, and a high skill level. She grew up as more of a point forward type of prospect, so she still maintains a lot of her ball-handling and passing skill. She is a capable perimeter shooter, and she can attack the basket straight-line. She’s almost dominant in the mid-post, when she works at 15-feet. Josie plays with a great motor, she’s a willing and capable rebounder, and she plays with a nice all-around basketball IQ.

Ava has been pursued by colleges for a couple of years now, and rightfully so. She is a strong, tough-nosed, hard-working wing who also displays a very nice skillset. She’s a good perimeter shooter who gets rid of it quickly, plus she has worked on her handle and is able to change directions and attack the basket against pressure. I really like her motor and her willingness to rebound her position, defend with physicality, and attempt to win 50/50 balls. She’s simply a nice all-around ballplayer.
Taylor is an extremely long, wiry-strong, and very athletic frontline prospect. She has great bounce in her, she runs the floor very well, and she changes directions quickly for a player her height. In fact, she has a nice quick-spin move with her back to the basket, where she elevates to the rim before her defenders can even react. She has some mid-post skill/touch, and that continues to be more consistent. Defensively, she can guard most wings, and she’s a nice help-side shot-blocker on rotation.
Layla is another extremely long forward, she is a smooth and gliding athlete, and she shows a great deal of touch around the perimeter. In fact, her lefty stroke is kind of her calling card. She is dangerous outside, whether it’s from inside-out passes or ball-screen-and-pop situations. Defensively, she needs to play a little lower and use her length, but I feel like she has the quickness to defend bigger guards, wings, and some power forwards. She played two years at Park Tudor before transferring to Cathedral last year.
Kelsey is definitely a “fit” kid for a college program, because she is unique in her style of play. She has the size, strength, and skill of a traditional post, so she can play comfortably on the block, rebound, block shots, and finish with either hand. At the same time, she has touch from the perimeter, and she’s a really nice high-post passer who sees the floor well. I’ve said it before, but her almost Euro-style of game makes her great in half-court offenses, especially those who use their bigs equally inside and out.

After her transfer from Brown County last year, Abby was not able to display her talents during the Winter of 2021-2022. This season, she should be very impactful for an already competitive Indian Creek team, making them a real threat in Class 3A. Abby has a solid to strong frame, really nice length, and a balanced skillset. She can make shots outside or absorb contact and finish in the paint. She possesses good ball skill, she’s a solid passer, and she can initiate and run offense. She also plays with a competitive fire.
