About A.J.
Expert Analysis
Brandon Bradley | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Despite some offers her high school classmates might have, A.J. brings a valuable presence to the Borden lineup. She is strong, tough-nosed, and she plays with a motor. She is a very good perimeter shooter when she can find rhythm, plus she has a solid handle and good court vision. She plays with a nice hoops IQ, and I think she can bring a “culture” type of fit and affect any program she joins for the 2026-2027 season. Meanwhile, she’ll help the Lady Braves attempt to repeat as State Champions this year.

A.J. has always been a highly competitive, hard-working guard. She is best known for her ability to make shots, but she does so many other things well. She can handle the ball against pressure, she has good vision and is an excellent passer, plus she seems to think the game well, also. Defensively, she does a nice job of anticipating and taking angles, so she doesn’t get beaten off the bounce. Oh yeah, and she can still shoot the ball at a high level. All in all, I feel like she’s someone who makes winning plays and tries to help the team.

A.J. Mallad is undoubtedly an offensive star, yet her primary focus seems to be on elevating her teammates’ play. Instead of prioritizing her own shot, A.J. excels at threading passes through incredibly tight windows, consistently keeping everyone involved in the offensive flow. Her pick-and-roll execution is also a standout aspect of her game, demonstrating excellent chemistry and decision-making with her teammates.
Mallad’s unselfish approach, despite her obvious scoring talent, speaks volumes about her team-first mentality and high basketball IQ. Her ability to deliver passes into seemingly impossible spaces highlights exceptional court vision and precision. By actively involving all her teammates, she creates a more dynamic and unpredictable offense, making it harder for opponents to focus on a single scoring threat. Her proficiency in the pick-and-roll further underscores her understanding of spacing and timing, allowing her to create scoring opportunities for herself or her rolling teammate. A player with A.J. Mallad’s combination of offensive prowess and selfless playmaking is a valuable asset to any team.

A.J. is a strong guard, physical at the point of attack, plus she plays with a nice motor and a competitive fire. She is a very good perimeter shooter when she’s able to get her feet set and find rhythm, plus she’s a strong North/South attacker. She has a solid handle and good feel for the game, but she’s probably still programmed more as a scorer than a traditional point guard. She can defend bigger prospects with her strength, and she is an effective rebounder at her size.

A.J. is a strong, compact guard with a little length. She plays low to the ground, protects the basketball, and she’s able to find open teammates. She is also an aggressive, attacking style of scorer who likes to penetrate and score inside the paint. She does have a little touch outside, but she’s better off the bounce. She will need to get a little quicker laterally to be able to defend the quickest of water-bug point guards, but she is a tough kid who does work hard.
